Going to Phoenix and Sedona, AZ in Dec around xmas time. Any cool old car/truck/tractor things to do or see? Never been to this area. Museums? Collections? Shows? Gatherings? Thanks for your suggestions!
I'm about 200 miles from Phoenix (close to Tombstone, AZ). I'm a little out of the loop, but, holidays are a little dead. A couple of links: Cruizin' AZ for in-state events. https://sites.google.com/view/cruisinaz roddinaz newsletter. Do a google search on it closer to your departure date for an updated listing of events. https://www.roddinaz.com/october-2024/ Russ
Tucson is 1 1/2 hrs south of Sky Harbor airport. We’ve got the Franklin Car Museum, and the just reopened Rolling thru Time. I haven’t been there since it reopened, so really can’t say. https://rttmuseum.com/ If you’re into aircraft, the Pima Air Museum is a great one. But it’s all an all day deal from the Phoenix area. TrailerTrash, hopefully , neither of us is too close to Tombstone.
Does Tombstone still do a re-enactment of OK Corral? When I lived in Phoenix we took a ride to check it out. Dang, that was over 40 years ago, I’d do it again if I was in Az!
Budget36 - I had to Google it. The answer is yes. https://www.ok-corral.com/ My now retired dentist used to play Doc Holliday on the weekend shows. His picture is 2nd from the right on the above link. Back then, the live reenactment shows were on the weekends. The actors were volunteers and part of the ticket sales went to local Tombstone charity's. Last last time I saw the show was about 35 years ago. An "It is funny years later story". I was standing in line in from of the OK Corral, with my 15 year old daughter and her 12 year old cousin. Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, Virgil and Morgan Earp came strolling down Allen Street. Doc Holliday (Dr Don Simpson) walked up to my daughter, pick a cigarette out of her mouth, threw it on the street and ground it with his boot. Then said: "I just added 15 minutes to your life". Then walked into the OK Corral. p.s. Before you judge, I was the non-custodial parent. Raising my children involved lots of "Pushing on a rope". Russ
The Pavillions in Scottsdale holds a weekly Saturday night cruise from 4-8 , draws a big crowd every time I’ve been there.
Heck, even if he was doing it when I was there, I wouldn’t recognize him a lick. I wouldn’t judge you. I raised a 7 yo step daughter until she was 18. But can tell you I raised my 3 daughters differently, because I could. And to one-up ya, I had to push that rope uphill!!
I believe every Saturday there’s a show in Scottsdale that is free to attend, streetside classics in Mesa is a big warehouse of cars that are for sale it’s also free t walk thru and the dwarf car museum in Maricopa is a kool. Maricopa is south of Phoenix about 45 minutes.
Take a drive up to Jerome. Some cool stuff. Check out Gold King Mine. Don was a Studabaker fan and has a few layin around. Even a turn of the century electric. Ask about his 'replica' early Indy car he built. Not all car related, but neat old $htuff.
There's also the Penske museum in Scotsdale. Not very big but some interesting cars. It's in the middle of his high end car dealerships, so you can check out the Lambos, Aston Martins, ect.
