I think the scammers are getting more stupid or I am getting smarter. Here’s the one I got today on a vehicle I am interested in. IMG_8322.png

It can be good sport to string them along to see what they do next. I have done it a few times on email scams. Just keep them on the hook but don't send any money

At this point in time if a person spends anytime on forums or large blogs they should have a handle about spotting scams. If it seems to good to be true slow the roll and investigate before continuing. Best to lose out on a supposed bargain than lose your money.

  5. You don’t get ripped off because its FB, CL, here or other places
You get ripped off by sending people you don’t know $$$$$$

Hey @'29 Gizmo , you should put together a "how to" thread to educate hambers about all the tricks.
It might save a lot of members from getting caught. All your info in one place would be great.

Just a tip. Try to give all your info in your first post. Once the replies start, things can get off track, confusing, and hard to sift through.

That is your challenge, should you choose to accept it.......:D

I had a person text me if something was still available on clist and i responded the item was still available. So then it went down hill about sending a check and she would have 2 people pick the item up later. my response is i don't care who picks it up they bring cash. nope she will send a check and make it out for more so i could pay them. i responded 1 last time. I only accept cash at time of pickup. She tried sending 3 more text and i just ignored them because i was done with that itch. so the next day i see a fedex truck pull in and i didn't think i had anything coming that day and i walked out there and he wanted me to sign for an envelope, then it hit me, i told him no i am not signing it and he asked me why? he needed to write something down., i told him i had nothing ordered so i am not signing anything and i walked away. by the time i walked into the house that lady texted me and asked why i refused her check. I never responded to her. never had a driver text a scammer and me get a response back so fast from them. .

    Here are two simple rules

#1 ALWAYS ask for more photos of the item. Ask for a random item in shot like a set of car keys or something with the name of their location on in the shot. If they cant do this for any reason, walk away. This applies to any listing on any social media site.

#2 on Facebook NEVER call them out, if you think its a fake account however much you want to. They will immediately bock you and they can continue to cause havoc in your facebook group and you wont see a thing. Instead report them to the moderators.

Yes, report to moderators, not FB themselves. Because FB don't care.
Also keep in mind, SOME groups, are run by scammers.

“If it sounds to good to be true it probably isn’t” I don’t know who wrote those words but something to consider before attempting to buy anything. I was selling an item and my bank told me they would only cash an out of state check if they had a full name address and phone number or better yet picture of driver’s license. I requested the information and guy told me he would under no circumstances send a picture of drivers license which I could somewhat understand. Later I got an email with name address and phone number. Just didn’t feel right so Googled address and it was foreclosed home for sale with a realtor, called phone number and it was a disconnected phone. Got to be careful!

Don’t most personal checks have the name, address, and phone number on them?

Bought some stuff from the hamb classifieds with success, first PM them and let them know I'm interested, then ask for their phone number. After a conversation you can tell if they are a car person or full of BS
If still comfortable after talking with the seller "sometimes make new friends" I'll send them a money order.

My wife enjoys FB to keep up with old pals, (school and neighbors), as we've left the area.
First time I was hospitalised, she proudly annouced that I had an account that she had set up.
Quickly I burst her bubble insisting she remove my name.
No way I get into that mess:mad:
