There was one of those in a salvage not for from be a time back, I did entertain the idea put figured it would be tough to pull it off proper. Ended up with a 65 Country Squire and passed it on to chase other ideas.

This old gal came as a surprise mid summer. Friend called and said "you need to look at this car"... I was NOT in the market for another old car! But, she's a west coast car with no rust and some decent upgrades. She needed a pretty fair amount of TLC, along with a bunch of mechanical and electrical fixing. Several months later and a lot of hours later... Note the OEM bench seat end caps retrofitted to the 88-90 Bronco buckets.
Oh, if any of you recognize this car (story goes it came from OR), I'd love some history.

1956 Chevy ultimate 60’s look and build.

If my wife and I owned a Chevy two door station wagon as our daily cruiser, it would look like this local So Cal 56 Chevy wagon… instant class and styling… YRMV

    Hello,

My wife and I have seen this two toned 1956 Chevy station wagon on several roadway sightings. One was crossing paths in an intersection, near an old industrial building complex in San Juan Capistrano and other times on PCH coastal highway. But, the last time we saw it parked was next to our favorite tile store and buildings. But, also, there were several surf industry company office and warehouse buildings right next door.

So, where was the owner? Assuming station wagons and surf industry would be a good guess, so the owner may have worked or been visiting the warehouse facilities of the surf companies. We took several shots and move on in the narrow roadway.

The color was a standard color for 1956, as our cousins in Long Beach back in 1958 had a mild custom 4 door hardtop sedan with a similar two tone color, as their family car and local cruiser.

Only, now, it is seen with older, wiser eyes and lots of memories. Station wagons have played a big part of our growing up years and family issues. So, when we saw a cool looking blue/white 56 Chevy station wagon near by the Amtrak Train Station and industrial tract in 2019, we had to take some photos and wonder about the owner.

In this portion of So Cal, the 56 Chevy surf wagons are still around and running daily. It has the classic look of a very clean station wagon with great looking American Racing Equipment 5 spokes. This 1956 Chevy Station Wagon would definitely look good in our small two car garage.

In my research, I found that the 1956 2 door post wagon belongs to this ex-firefighter and now custom surfboard shaper. What a combo. His finished wooden surfboards are outstanding and would also look good on a wall of our small current house.

But, since the original sighting in early 2019, it has been mysteriously missing from the surf spots in and around the OC beaches. We also have not seen it cruising around the area where we first saw it parked. Either he is surfing a lot or making more fine historic wooden surfboards…

Then in the middle of Summer, 2022, we saw it parked in front of a dental office as we were going to the local bank and gas station... still as nice as originally seen several years earlier... A local So Cal styling master in hot rods and custom wooden surfboards...

    Hello,

Nice photo of a rare two door wagon. A few months ago, I drew a 58 Mercury Two Door Sedan. It was to be a lowered, customized cruiser for a Friday Art Show. But, it led to extending the back to make a Nomad style two door station wagon, instead. I had not seen a Nomad style Mercury Station Wagon as yet, so it just looked like it should have the styling.

A lowered rake gave it some attitude but, then the Mercury styling called for stretching the top and making a Nomad style two door wagon.

As an aficionado of customs with a lowered rake and styling with color, my last version turned into a nice cruiser, even for storing surfboards.

A 1958 Mercury custom front door opening, lowered, Nomad style station wagon that would have been a “big hit” with the local So Cal surf crowd… longboards and all… YRMV
