    Hello All,
I purchased a CharlieNY Chevrolet converted distributor from my Mercury 8ba flathead and was wondering if anybody knows the part number for the Pertronix ignition conversion kit. Charlie did mention to order the kit that reads off the breaker cam.
    Thanks for the help.

This is a traditional place. We usually use points and condensers here.

From a "GOOGLE" of "Pertronix history" : "In the early 70's, a Per-Lux engineer developed an electronic ignition system that would replace the points and condenser in distributors."

According to Pertronix itself, their products were initially designed for use in industrial products (fork lifts, etc.). They didn't actually produce them for automotive use until 1991.

I'd bet if you called the company, they would be able to answer your question. They would also be on the hook if it didn't fit. Beats calling with a part number and being wrong.

I’m not going to make any suggestion as to which p/n is needed but do you have a 6v + ground system or have you converted it? Petronix can accommodate what you might have, just don’t buy one off the shelf that you might burn up.

I've been down this road and went through the whole cycle only to come back to a simple points and condenser system. I tried both types of the Pertronix for a Chev distributor I have, which was done by Bubba for my flathead. Was going to go with an MSD box and the pertronix. Nothing but headaches with each step, even bought a new electronic flathead dist. to make things simpler. Just couldn't get things to play nice together, so I gave up finally, reinstalled the old dist. with points and condenser, and the flatty has run fine ever since. I think flatheads don't like hi tech shit!:D

I’m thinking Charlie set up a points distributor for your flathead. Bubba (Jim Linder) would do the same, but convert it and limit the maximum advance for a FH V8.
Jim did a lot of testing, found the FH V8 didn’t like nearly as much advance as a SBC. I think-could be wrong, he targeted 16-18 degrees “all in”.
