Came across this on FB marketplace. I was stunned. One of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen. I don’t think I have ever seen one before, so thought I would share. Price seems like a bargain to me.
A good friend of mine found and bought a 49 Packard woodie wagon almost 20 years ago. He got it running, fixed the brakes. I actually got to drive it around the block. It had some pretty bad rust along with some pieces of wood that were in bad shape. It sold for $18,000……….that price you posted would scare the hell out of me. If you are serious about it, go do it in person so you don’t get scammed. Great looking beast though !!!!
Was at an auction last spring that sold a barn find Packard like that (needing full restoration) for a few hundred bucks. I’m betting the scrapper bought it.
$25K is probably a bit steep for that Packard. Wagons and Convertibles bring $25K and up, but very good condition, high end drivers of the 2 and 4 door variety typically only fetch $15K to $20K. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and the Series 22 and Series 23 Packards (1948 to 1950) definitely have some mixed opinions. I say this as the proud owner of a Series 23 (1950) Super Deluxe Touring Sedan, and it is a fantastic and wonderful car to drive. Just perhaps not the best looking car ever built.
If I had the talent, space, and spare money, I've always wanted to start with one of those and make me a poor man's version of the Phantom Corsair. C'mon, you can see that, too.
No one is going to advertise in Canada in US dollars without specifying it in the ad so it has to be CDN. $25,000 Cdn is just under $18,000 US so it could probably be had for somewhere near $15,000 US.
I had a perfect one in 1966. Unfortunately the "ultramatic" transmission (a two speed slush like a Fordomatic) just didn't cut it in San Francisco where I lived. If I had to stop while climbing one of the steeper hills it couldn't get moving again but would just sit there making a noise like the vacuum cleaner from hell. I replaced it with a one owner twin h Hudson Hornet with a hydramatic... end of problem.
Someone on the HAMB was building a really slick looking custom out of one of these a few years ago, but I'm not sure how to find it.
