It's been done. Do a search on this forum. As I remember, the differences were easy to see.

  4. Perhaps I should re word that. What if someone on the forum replicated the NAPA test. And videoed it.

  5. But that one was "Made in USA".

FRAM is a multi-national corporation with manufacturing facilities in multiple countries.

  6. You guys might be surprised if you really dug into the story, who makes what filter. The same company that makes Fram, also makes AC Delco Filters. First Brands Group owns several filter brands including Fram, Champion Laboratories, and Lubrifiner. I’ve been in this industry way too long to believe each of these companies are making filters of their own design. There is rebranding happening. I’m not an oil filter engineer and when Joe Blow on the internet (said with a Hank Hill accent) cuts apart a filter and starts motherfucking it’s construction, I believe they are full of shit. Let the engineers figure out what is best for each application. The best thing you can do is service the damn filter regularly. Oh, and Fleetgard filters were mentioned, they are a damn fine filter, Fleetgard is owned by Cummins Engine Company. In 34 years, I’ve only seen 1 filter cause an engine problem. It was on an International Maxxforce 9 engine, it caused a low flow problem that didn’t damage the engine, but caused a low Injector Control Pressure issue and by extension a low power complaint. The filter, was an OEM International Navistar filter. We chased this problem for over 2 weeks as a warranty issue in 2012.

You've never cut a filter open looking for shiney stuff ? Did you have any idea what to look for in filter construction ? If not , it's pretty much an exercise in futility .

  8. Bought a case of WIX filters this past spring, all have Made in the U.S.A on them IMG_2950.JPG

I buy my filters by the case also, and discovered Fleetguard filters made by Cummins. Their LF692 is a 1.5 quart filter that fits Chevy V8's and I paid $11 each for them last purchase. High quality American made, with huge capacity. Might not be good for low slung engines as they hang below the pan, but my cars aren't tail draggers, so no issue.
