We needed to modify some upper door trim to hold our peep mirrors. We opted for the old school look of the peep mirrors but did not want to use the clamp on paint chippers. The ends of the upper door trim uses a machine screw through the door and into a nut plate. Our plans are to use a formed hole in the trim and use the hole in the door to attach the mirrors.

As we had used the tail stock of the South Bend before with success, we made some press dies to match the mirror's stepped end and provide a flange in the holes for added strength.

This gives us more of a look like it belongs there instead of clamping onto and chipping fresh paint...

    Nice solution Robert.
I hate the job those clamp-on mirrors do on the paint, even with a plastic liner under the clamp they eventually break through the paint.

Some small parts made for that Alfa I posted earlier :
    Both side grilles
    [IMG]

Doors window frames (one polished the other not yet)

    The windshield frame
    [IMG]

And I don't know if it's really metal shaping, more like straigtening : the center grille
    [IMG]

Which is the only original brightwork I managed to save from the car, the rest was too far gone
    [IMG]

Edit I just found the picture of the car when I received it

Mike, you've outdone yourself this time. Amazing!

When I think about those shitty old fiberglass versions that were pop riveted and bondo'd onto so many hoods back in the 60's and 70's, this just blows me away.

Working on some early Mack truck fenders. Started by making a buck, they are so large I decided to do them in 1/4s instead of halves. Then started patterning and shaping IMG_0983.jpeg IMG_0984.jpeg CD8D13DB-58FC-4FAF-A0E4-B0162333B43E.jpeg IMG_1113.jpeg IMG_1114.jpeg IMG_1116.jpeg 71AB301A-AE33-4AE7-A68A-CADF6DD54436.jpeg IMG_1402.jpeg IMG_1403.jpeg IMG_1404.jpeg IMG_1405.jpeg

I got tired of working on the 34 Ford and wanted to do some metal work. So, I dragged down this rust grill shell for my 37 Packard and went to work. I could have chosen an easier project but it turned out ok. There's a little fine tuning left to do but the hard part is behind me. :)

The results of your work are awesome. Seeing how you accomplished these results is how we could learn from you. Is there any chance that you could show us your fabrication process on this thread or one of your own?
