    Hello,

I found a corresponding thread from way back to showcase the latest photo shot of a famous, drag race, street car (truck) at Lions Dragstrip. (Charlie “The Painter” Ettein’s yellow, pickup truck...a Los Angeles local.) It looked innocent enough with all of the stuff on it, but when it fired up and made a run, that was impressive.

I was able to shoot a quick photo of the newly updated truck at the first edition of the Lion’s Dragstrip Museum in Long Beach. It is the 2017 updated style, but pretty accurate in its early form. The rest of the paraphernalia would be added later in the final display. I had to shoot and run as the saying goes.

More on this truck later. But, a little history first:

A blown Chrysler engine with an automatic transmission used over 100,000 miles of daily driving, what an amazing feat. (A 5000+ lbs. truck slated for C/Gas... Our 671, SBC, 40 Willys rivalry/competition in the making... including the idea of extra weight in the rear to make the class rules.)

upload_2024-10-28_4-39-36.png Grist Brothers A/gas + Painter's truck B/Gas + Doug Cook C/Gas + Bones Balogh D/Gas quite a list of known racers to most in drag racing.

    Note:

Ours weight set up for the Willys was a couple of large, 1 inch steel plates, welded in to shore up and cover the whole rear trunk area. We welded extra pieces right over the rear axle. Thanks for the idea...We easily made the weight rules for C/Gas in 1960. YRMV

    Hello,

My wife and I were out driving on some errands and came upon a nice two toned Ford truck. My wife saw it almost three blocks away. It was parked on the side of the road in an empty curb, as the adjoining property was a lengthy green park and sidewalk. She is getting better in spotting it from far away.

So, “hot rod truck,” ahead on the right… was heard and now I could see it as we got closer. Nice color, nice stance and the chrome wheels brings back the “old school” look of our youth. But, it is always sad to see any old hot rod or hot rod truck being for sale.

Some of us are getting to the point of moving stuff our of the garage, that had been taking up space. Or the family needed garage space for parking the latest new station wagon and something, like a third wheel, has to go.

Or as a lot of folks are now rolling into the sons/daughters or even granddaughters moving on to the next big step in their college adventures, it helps pay for a semester or two.

Nice truck and great memory from the old school look. The early days of riding around in one of those very useful trucks has come a long way to today... YRMV

  9. The ex-owner of that truck has had cars in the Portland Roadster Show since 1956 where he won 1st place "Competition" with a 1927 track-T.

The truck now resides at Jerry Logan's "Car Barn" in Boring Oregon along with the Copper Caddy and a couple hundred others.

I like it. I’m rebuilding my F100 now and have shortened the wheelbase, but a little less than that.
