Technical ford 1940 drums question

found this drums on ebay does anyone knows about it? good or bad? never seen before and they look a lot like original

The looks very much like 48' and up slip on F1 drums.

 

Looks like a 40 Ford drum. Won’t fit up to 48 like the seller mistakenly said. I’ve got no idea about the quality though.

 

How come so much patina on a new reproduction drum? If correct it should fit post war with the correct hub, Ford sold them as an assembly for 40-48.

It's probably old reproduction part, that's why patina is present. Never seen those drums as reproduction part.

 

The same page on Epay shows Speedway drums for about $90 shipped.

 

But doesn't look the same as original if someone wish to keep it looking original.

 

At the bottom of ad it says "old-stock reproduction", perhaps he means old-stock dealer replacement.

 

The guy that wrote that ad is a bit goofy. He calls his drum "one piece", not so, they are cast iron lined steel, and he says the new reproductions are two piece when they are all cast iron one piece that I've seen. It looks like a stock 40 drum to me.

 

I think they are full steel drums but maybe I'm wrong. In my opinion there is not enough overall thickness to do it that way.

 

I think pretty much all brake drums except maybe a kids go kart are cast Iron. Not sure if its a heat thing or iron grabs better. I know it cuts like cast iron in my lathe, chips...not curls

 

I thought I missed that and went back to check. That is not on my ad???

Yours is also a 40. The drum mounts on the outside of the hub. If it was gonna mount to the inside of the hub it couldn’t have the lip at the center hole.
