My dad had trucks, always used fram filters no problem, i have owned several cars and pickup in me 89 years have not used any thing but fram filters, never had a problem, all you have to do is keep your oil changed regular.
Perhaps I should re word that. What if someone on the forum replicated the NAPA test. And videoed it.
But that one was "Made in USA". FRAM is a multi-national corporation with manufacturing facilities in multiple countries.
You guys might be surprised if you really dug into the story, who makes what filter. The same company that makes Fram, also makes AC Delco Filters. First Brands Group owns several filter brands including Fram, Champion Laboratories, and Lubrifiner. I’ve been in this industry way too long to believe each of these companies are making filters of their own design. There is rebranding happening. I’m not an oil filter engineer and when Joe Blow on the internet (said with a Hank Hill accent) cuts apart a filter and starts motherfucking it’s construction, I believe they are full of shit. Let the engineers figure out what is best for each application. The best thing you can do is service the damn filter regularly. Oh, and Fleetgard filters were mentioned, they are a damn fine filter, Fleetgard is owned by Cummins Engine Company. In 34 years, I’ve only seen 1 filter cause an engine problem. It was on an International Maxxforce 9 engine, it caused a low flow problem that didn’t damage the engine, but caused a low Injector Control Pressure issue and by extension a low power complaint. The filter, was an OEM International Navistar filter. We chased this problem for over 2 weeks as a warranty issue in 2012.
You've never cut a filter open looking for shiney stuff ? Did you have any idea what to look for in filter construction ? If not , it's pretty much an exercise in futility .

I buy my filters by the case also, and discovered Fleetguard filters made by Cummins. Their LF692 is a 1.5 quart filter that fits Chevy V8's and I paid $11 each for them last purchase. High quality American made, with huge capacity. Might not be good for low slung engines as they hang below the pan, but my cars aren't tail draggers, so no issue.
Don't do that if you are a barstool engineer, or get quality control advice from your hairdresser. They base their conclusions on looks , appearance, and hearsay . The biggest complaint I hear about Fram is the "cheap" cardboard end caps on the filter element. But if you play around with adhesives [like I do] you'd realize this actually is a feature. Try gluing incompatible materials in a heat cycle environment. From Fram

My old man used to be a rep for Frantz Filters (AKA toilet paper filters). They were bypass filters, and the toilet paper elements provided an extremely fine filter, which had the added advantage of absorbing and holding a lot of moisture. Adding one to a vehicle that had an existing "Full Flow" filter provided a "Belt and Suspenders" approach that is still used today in semi trucks and other severe-duty applications. Used properly, they are an excellent addition to most vehicles.
I think the Mobil 1 is also a fine filter. With that said, I am out on this filter war thread. Its DEAD.
lol. I use the M1 or STP, whichever is bundle with the M1 oil I use. I used to use Fram, until the internet “scare”. But I never had an issue with one.
Back in HS, I used Hastings oil filters, they had a long one and a normal one. But both had a nut on the bottom of the filter, so much easier than a filter wrench
I remember those sheet metal " nuts" twisting/ tearing off if you breathed on them the wrong way , also some putz's used them to overtighten the filters .
Every year I have a hot rod calendar hanging up in the shop. Never could remember to flip the page from month to month......now I just use new filter threads to remind me and it's pretty damn accurate. Thanks fellas.
Stuff is made all over the world nowadays. Just a few weeks ago my Rockauto order came in, and lo and behold I lucked out and got the "good" gasket from the Faroe Islands!
