I just bought a very clean 57 210. Its rust free with a fresh black paint job and stock replacement interior. It has a stock 283, powerglide. The previous owner installed 17 and 18-inch mag wheels and tires. I will be going with a 327 and muncie 4 speed but first I need these tires and wheels off the car. I will be going with 15 inch wheels but need help with width and back spacing. What have you 57 guys run? /
I'm having trouble loading new pictures, so I'll add one of a 57 I had several years ago. This is the look Im going for but with larger rear tires and wheels. I don't remember what these were.
If I’m being paged about 15 8’s, yes they’ll fit. 4 1/2” back space is the ticket. These only come close in 4 1/4” & 4 3/4” back space. So a 1/4” solid style wheel spacer and the 4 3/4” back space got them in with a 275/60/15. (Note, stock rear end)
Fronts - 15x5 wheels on 205/75 tires Rears - 15x7 wheels on 235/70 tires. Don’t laugh at my low hanging passenger tailpipe. Hanger has been replaced since photo was taken.
Neat stuff on here. @Xman I had corvette ralleys when I first put the Chevy together but they didn't really fit. Had to pull out the quarter panels to get wheels on and off. Looked cool though. These tri-5s are just like second generation Novas, not a lot of room in the rear. 15x7s for me
@Xman ^^^^^ Those rears scream stock Chevy 15 7’s with 255/70/15’s. That’s what’s on the back of the avatar 56. Clearance is great. On and off easy.
I think I have 7" wide wheels and 225/75's on the back of my '57, and it's already kinda tight. They don't have room for a ton of width, but you can get quite a bit of tire height in there, which is usually my preference anyway. I'm pretty sure you can get an 8" wide wheel in there but it has to have really exact backspacing, the right size tire, and probably air shocks to push the springs down to get them in there, nothing you'd ever want to change on the side of the road.
15x7's and I cant remember the backspacing but its like 3ish inches or in that range. You can get a 15x8 under the rear of the car, usually have to unhook the shocks and let the rear drop to mount.
If the 283 is a runner & 4 sale I am in the Wenatchee, Wa. area and interested. I also have the makings of a 301-302 if interested....................................
I rolled the inner lip to gain a little more room on my last '55 to run wider tires. Even with that I had to jack the body up and take a shock loose to get enough clearance to get the tire off. Your '57 should be good with the advise given above
I ran 15X8 'vette ralleys. They had the same offset [4"] on both front side and back....zero offset. Ran them on the front and back...........Had no rubbing issues I can remember.
