Hey all. I've got a new TKX trans that was shipped on its side and crushed the tail shaft shipping plug up into the housing. I fished all of that out and the seal had been torn, so got one from Tremec and went to install. I noticed that the lip of the extended housing bushing looked jagged in a few places and some metal in the old seal. I sent Tremec and SST a note with picture and they said all good, that those imperfections were for the fluid to move between the bushing and slip yoke and to lightly smooth over any burs with a small file or emery cloth. They don't look machined but grooved out. Does that sound right? Included a pic.

Also, my new slip yoke has a few vertical scratches along the length of the shaft. Some I can catch a fingernail in. Any issues there? I was told nothing to worry about but trying to avoid a leak before I install this thing if I can. Thanks.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I worry too much about this stuff as I have the ****** out of the car now and wanted to take care of any issues.

A couple of these scratches on the slip yoke I can feel with my fingernail. Can those cause leaks or no? If yes, I’ll put pressure on the manufacturer to send me a replacement. If not, I’ll install as is and enjoy the extra days of not waiting for a replacement.

    Love the H.A.M.B.!

  5. You paid for a new trans and because of freight delivery, you have a mess. I ordered one a few years ago and UPS destroyed the box. It was delivered in pieces to my shop. The trans wasn't damaged so I got lucky. I would try to s****e the rough edges off and vacuum the parts out. Anything that causes particles isn't good. I removed my shipping plug which was smashed but it's rubber. What caused the damage to the bushing???

Tremec went to orange plastic plugs, as the last TKO I received had the rubber donut. Probably not the best idea as I've seen others the same way. Not sure what caused the damage to the bushing, but Silver Sport Transmissions and Tremec said they did not see an issue. I was tempted just to pull the tail shaft and have a new bushing pressed in and be done with it. 20 minutes of work for peace of mind? It will just delay me a bit as no one carries those bushings except Tremec.

  7. Is the bushing the same as a c6 with the large yoke?

I'm finding it a bit hard to believe that the bushing is unique to Tremmec. Easily imagine it's a stock piece that they put a part number on though.

Interesting that you bring it up as I contacted Tremec today and they don't sell the bushing out right. They sent me to a local Tremec dealer. I spoke to the owner of that trans shop today and he said that even though he's a dealer, Tremec won't sell him the bushing outright either and he started subs***uting with another that had the same diameter. So bizarre. Tremec also won't sell the individual gasket either. You have to buy the entire kit.

This dealer also said to move on, just ensure that there were no burs and proceed with install, which is what I'll do. Said if bushings have leaks, they mostly come from the center of the bushing as it wears, not the edges. I did lightly smooth those out with a file as I think that's what scratched my slip yoke when I was first test fitting.

Ironically, I pulled up another picture that I had when I installed a seal on my last TKO600. The bushing looked to have the same random jagged edges, and I never had any issues, so maybe this is just the way they are depending on how they are installed. Maybe Tremec doesn't use a press for these and hammers them in? Not sure...
