Early in this thread in 2017 @DDDenny asked if Mitch would do the striping. You’re a man of your word Billy.

I haven't even seen it yet. The pictures was courtesy of @Almostdone who happened by Mitch's while he was doing his thing. I can't wait to see it unclose and personal today.

It's not about the money, it's about the cool.

I have at that my friend, I have at that.

I actually had it striped years ago before the roadster show, Mitch was way too far back and couldn't fit it in. I had a local guy do it and he did a nice job but it was never to my liking for this car. When he striped the pickup earlier this year I remembered just how ridiculously talented this guy is so I made an appointment. I went home and used Easy Off oven cleaner (the good stuff, not the eco friendly crap) and wiped all the stripes off the car. I gave Mitch a clean canvas to play with. Thanks again for the pictures and the sneak peak.

Here are a few more of the master at work. I sure will miss this guy. It was sad to walk in to his shop and all the art work is gone from the walls s he prepares to vacate. End of an era. But what an era!
I guess the handles were in his way do they had to be removed and reinstalled. I hear that wasn’t easy.

And a shot of Mitch at work on the hood.
    IMG_1594.jpeg
If you think you have mad striping skills, take a look at that line he is working on.
    IMG_1606.jpeg
Yeah, that’s hand lettering in the center stripe. He mailed the Navarro lettering. I love the triple stripe, very fitting for a 33-34 ford.

I’ll give you more when I pick it up this afternoon. It is pouring here, but the trailer is in the driveway ready to go play retriever.

    A sad day indeed!
Glad for Mitch though, he'll be able to enjoy the fruits of his labors.
Bill, that Navarro graphic on the hood is beyond perfection.

You want to run the gauntlet? Try making the run to Clackamas, OR from Battle Ground, WA with a truck and trailer at 4:00 in the afternoon. I was on the Glen Jackson bridge for half an hour coming home.

Anyhoo, it was too dark to mess with unloading tonight. Ill take the pics tomorrow.

    Spoiler; thar be stick people!

Mitch told me once that he put a caricature of two people "bonding" inside the gas door.
Owner had a less than "happy ending".

The light in my little garage isn’t the greatest since no work is supposed to be done in there so forgive the quality of the pictures.

I love the triple stripe. I noticed that he stripes the outer two thin stripes first and then adds the thicker center stripe. He said that is the only way to keep the lines tight. Learn something every day.
    IMG_6724.jpeg
He added a little line on the hood around the frog mouths.
    IMG_6723.jpeg
the Navarro lettering thoroughly delights me!
    IMG_6722.jpeg
Mitch added some “motion” stripes to the front blisters.
    IMG_6721.jpeg
and a little finale at the other end where he signed off on his work IMG_6720.jpeg
this little guy is up front on the left side where the stripe terminates by the grille.
    IMG_6717.jpeg
I’m not sure but he seems to be adding fluid to my radiator to aid in cooling the Flathead.
I know for sure what these two are doing.
    IMG_6719.jpeg
How can he letter that small? With Mitch’s retirement comes the end of an era in the PNW. What a talent!
Oh, he hit the glove box door too.
    IMG_6725.jpeg
Cool! He said he needed to emphasize the HAMB plaque.
    IMG_6726.jpeg
The worse part of having the car striped is it is November now, I have to wait months to show it off! Other than to my HAMB buddies.

    Now, about that transmission…

Growing up in So Cal I've watched painters and pinstripe artists since I was a kid. Mitches work is absolutely amazing and is among the best I've ever seen. He truly is an accomplished artist and Billy's roadster is a visual testament to Mitches talent. Beautiful job!!!

I don't think there is much that Mitch hasn't put lines on, from hot rods, gennies, race cars of all types, fire trucks, boats, bikes, girls, safes, big rigs, helicopters, to name a few.
Then there is his gold and silver leaf work, it's as good as it gets.

Mitch is extraordinarily talented, and I am honored to have a couple of cars in my garage striped by him. Tasteful, never over the top, identifiable immediately, works of art. And @DDDenny is correct, I had him leaf a couple of corvettes over the years and they were wicked cool. Both were red cars, one in gold leaf and the other in silver. Stunning. Hey, it was the 80's, gold leaf and 15x10 tru-spokes baby!

That would look so cool! Need ice.

That reminds me, one of the slicks is way low on air. Hope I didn't puncture it. I am not sure if shops will repair those TC tires.

  26. I remember going to shows when my kids were much younger (both in their 40's now), hey dad check out these stick people. I dont know if your guy did them as one of his signature moves or whether a lot of stripers were doing them.

I imagine others may have copied his "thing" but he has been doing that for decades. I bet it was his work since you are from the NW. One of Bob Schoonhoven's' daughter is a close friend of mine and she told me Mitch put stick people inside her gas lid when she was a 20 something (40 years ago) and she made him take them off.

Then there's my wife, Mitch striped her truck and she was upset she didn't get stick people!

The striper's bash at Goodguys Puyallup (back in 2015) was really cool, tons of talent.

  29. Never seen anyone else copy the stick people that was kind of always Mitch's calling card, lol. With him retiring the old guard in the Portland/Vancouver area has kind of disappeared. Bob "Spirit" Spencer doesn't stripe much anymore if at all, Mitch is retiring and then Spiderman passed away a couple years ago. I dont really know who does striping now in the local area.
