Hey fellas, been a while since I posted. The Hollish Brothers Coupe is gone. I ended up with a 34 5 window that needs a change-up. It's been this way for a LONG time. It's a very nice build, boxed frame, 283 ,Th350, 9". I have a 327 for it. And no, it won't be getting chopped. Just looking for ideas that maybe I haven't thought about. Hell I've got all winter.

  2. If it was mine, I would start looking for a full chrome grille, add a rear bumper, change up the wheels and tires. I favor classic polished straight spoke TTO Americans as thats what I have on my 33 pickup. Thats just simple stuff to be able to still drive it.

It would eventually be blown apart to paint it. Best way to make it your own is to change the color.

I would start by fixing any obvious BS work that had been done previous to it… I know that doesn’t help customize it to you, but there is not much less cool than standing on the side of the road with the hood up.

After that I would do something with the wheels. The ones on there are not offensive, but they don’t add a whole lot either in my opinion. I like black but I seem to like everyone’s hot rod no matter what color it is- so a color change would go a long way too although it’s not very easy.

  4. For Starters …

Edit you first post and remove
all the backstory of who had
    the car before you

    Continue asking advice
    without the backstory

    Then go build your car

The primer or matt black paint islooking pretty tired IMO . Id respray it satin Black again or do a actual really nice paint job on it . I have the same issue with my model A PU its primer after 20 years is blotchy and uneven. I like the stance and its a cool looking car.
Even some center caps for the wheels would give its some contrast.

If it was mine id want some early Americans or something or at least some dog dish size center cap

what's the interior look like . lots of ways to change that to suit the owner .

Too bad, on the surface, it looks like a nice starter or daily "driver" car.

With about 5000 miles under your belt it'll have talked to you, and then you'll know. Might not need that many miles.

  9. Chrome grill, chrome reverse wheels with spider caps, primer gray and white walls, that'd change it up.
If you don't want white walls then leave them black and do black pinstripes flames over the gray primer.
If you like the black primer then do white pinstripes flames.

Let me make sure I'm understanding this correctly, YOU want us to help you make your car your own????

If you follow our suggestions, won't that make your car ours?

What would you like to change on your car?

Shouldn't that be "What would you like to change on our car?"

Already on it. Have the grill and some DeSoto bumpers.

  17. I think your car looks great the way it is. As has already been suggested, it could use a chrome grill, some painted wheels and/or small hub caps, and some pin strips to your taste. Since we're dealing with "traditional hot rods" there is really not much new ground to cover so just look at all the excellent examples on this site and go from there.

When I bought my '34 coupe in 1973 it was an old race car in two tone, black and (real) rust. I sprayed it in grey primer, put American five spokes on it and drove it that way for two years. By then I knew what I wanted to do with it.

Paint it a medium purple, lower the front with some chrome reverse rims, checkerboard fire wall and Corvette valve covers.

Imagine it going down a road as is, and not sitting half assembled in a shop for 8 years.

Just my opinion, but if you make it what we'd like then it's still not making it yours. I like people's comments, but in the end I build what I want, not what others like.

I can’t think of anything that hasn’t already been done to a model 40 over the last 90 years. Looks killer to me now. As has already been said, drive the shit out of it for awhile and the inspiration will come. With the new grille and bumpers, sounds like your plan is forming………

Best way to make it yours is by hanging your arm out the window whilst driving the piss out of it!!

Personally I'd toss in some spider caps and mount that chrome grille. Dream about what color you out wants after putting down some miles.

just like buying a house do not make changes till you have lived with it a while, it will tell you what you like and dont like. Keep what you like and change what you dont.
