Looking for front bumper suggestions for my newly acquired 58 Dodge truck. I am ok with the current setup but thinking that I should be looking for something during upcoming swap meets. Any ideas? I think the stock 1958 Dodge front bumper is a bit “thick” for my taste. I did see one image online with what might be a 40 Ford?? bumper (see the red truck below) but I wonder if they have too much curvature for this flat faced truck.
I agree that the stock one looks ok…just seems heavy or thick appearing. The 1957 bumper is a bit thinner but still fits the flat face.
That does have a nice shape. I will have to look around and see if I can find one to try. Nice truck!
Front Bumpers for Trucks - LMC Truck - LMC Truck These guys ae hard to beat and the bumper quality is great. I bought a primer (E-coated) rear bumper from them several years ago for $100. They are $!50 now but still hard to beat for a new bumper.
Thanks for that link. The price for a chrome 56 Chevy truck bumper is pretty decent. Still thinking about options.
Wow, that's a wild stock grille. Maybe try mimicking the grille. Maybe a Corvair or Pinto "blade" bumper, although they might not be wide enough to easily fit on the truck. Or a Phantom Corsair triple-blade bumper.
KevCo ..That is what I initially thought it was too but it only has 4 bolts vs the 5 for the Chev plus it seems to have less curvature.
This was going to be suggestion, I’m not sure wheee in Alberta you are but I have a spare that’s mostly straight
How about a rear bumper from a 59 Impala? Not sure it will be simple bolt on with its width. It is straight across, no V bend in it, so it would go with the flat nose of the Dodge. The one on Taboo is narrowed 3" to fit on a tri five.
57Fargo…I am down in Lethbridge. I will keep that in mind. Just really got started thinking about it recently so mostly just brainstorming right now. I don’t dislike the current look, just thinking of options. Current bar is solid stock so it is pretty solid. Thanks! And I have been following your truck build…it has turned into a damn nice truck…cheers!
Taboo…that is an interesting idea. The shape appears to match the grille bars. Is there any chance you could measure yours for me? I think I might know where one is…maybe? Damn scrappers have been through these parts pretty thoroughly a couple years ago.
I can measure it Wednesday when I am over checking on the car. If you can find a 3 piece bumper you could chop it up and make it fit your truck, Would have to then plate it but would be a cool custom touch. Would also have to figure out mounts.
Hello, When my wife and I were out and about checking on some out of the way surf spots in a few coastal communities, we came upon a cool looking Dodge Truck. We had seen it cruising around on some other major streets with a couple of older folks having a great time being in the truck. Smiles on both told us the story, or a great joke was just told at the moment we saw them smiling. Ha! The red truck with all black bumpers and running boards But, later on in the following year, we saw it again and had to take another photo as it was a captured audience.. The neat thing is that it is not a shiny chrome laden old hot rod. It is a clean daily driver and has a pretty nice single color thing going for it. The black bumpers give the bright red color its time to shine and frames it out nicely with the black running board. Overall, it was a nice build and those folks are happy with it. We can’t see the complete bronze truck of yours from other photos. But this photo shows that with black bumpers, it too, will outline the nice bronze. Your truck does not need a lot of chrome. It has just enough and the black tubular bars will give it some cool contrast. The top photo has tucked in curved corner bars inside of the width. The lower photo moves those rounded ends farther outside. The rear will need some creative welding and design to accommodate your shapes and drop down gate. Jnaki We have begun to see more old trucks on our coastal drives during the week. Most are daily drivers, but they also must be trucks to go to and from work, unless they are retired. So, we still keep a sharp eye out for the old hot rod trucks still moving on down the road to their intended destinations. YRMV
Taboo…thank you! Jnaki…I have the complete build book from the gentleman who built the truck. The rear pan is both a cover for the gas tank and a strong “beefer bar” as he called it. I am going to play around with my iPad art program and try out a variety of looks. Appreciate the response! This truck is a nice driver so it will be out and about in Alberta, BC and Montana this summer.
Clydesdale…agreed. The truck has several non-traditional “touches” so I am trying to be careful not to violate the rules while still getting traditional suggestions from the good folks here. The bottom grille bar was modified to allow those lights so getting rid of them would require some thought to make it look right. If I can find a replacement bar and get it chromed then it will happen.
That seems very narrow. I think my truck is about 64” from edge of the roll pan to edge of roll pan….or is that just the measurement of the center portion? I appreciate you taking the time to do this!
