Hi, I came across a real nice, never damaged Mickey Thompson Cross Ram for a Big Block Chevy. I heard rumors that Yenko and the like put them on Camaros and the part number seems to be similar to many Chevy part numbers of that era. Regardless it is a pretty cool intake, the linkage is not complete but it is still very nice. Anyone have an idea of when it was made? mid to late 60's? Thanks, Tim
They do look cool and yours is in great shape. Just so you know, any tunnel ram any make new or old will pretty much slaughter that cross ram in the HP/Torque war.
Yeah, I know not the best performance wise but for a period built g***er or something it would be great.
Strictly a strip intake. I don't know the actual era that they were built but mid to late '60s to early '70s should ball park you. If you are a tuner or know a tuner it can be made to perform well on the street or the strip. Well being a relative term here. The do look neat and I could be off on my dates. There is no doubt someone who can give you an actual manufacture date or range.
We ran a similar cross ram on the street on a 11.5 to one solid lifter 350 in a 67 Camaro...this big block one will likely go on my dads 13 to one 460 inch Camaro. Be great if someone can offer some more information on it, pretty cool intake for sure. thanks, Tim
They run excellent on both street & strip builds! The one in the photo below is an Edelbrock. Ran it for a few years on a 460" '66 Chevelle street car, plenty of low end torque, absolutely no hesitation with a pair of 650 holleys! Also came in first at most car shows at the time, it was rare even back in the early '80's! Thanks, Gary in N.Y. P.S. Here's a shot of it more recently, the ride is long gone, but I still have the entire setup here with me! Started with some aftermarket linkage, I went and fabricated the rest to make it more reliable!
The Power Ram series intake was new for 64 but there was a few slight changes over time and two specific versions of nearly all Power Rams including the 409's. FE and Pontiac kept the original design thoughout production. With all of the others the plenum areas were reduced to a smaller wedge shape similar to Edelbrock's 65 design such as with yours. As far as BBC goes I've never seen one that did not have the newer style plenum but they may be out there.
Yeah, it is a pretty cool intake, I also have an Edelbrock one for a big block, an Edelbrock one for a small block and an Offy Z28 style small block one, the Offy one I will definitely use on a 302 build I am doing...and one of the big block ones will go on my dads 460 13 to 1 big block 68 Camaro
You can see my 302 here, it is more high tech than my Dad's 68 Camaro which is more of a G***er style car, my dads car has early Corvette sidepipes 13 to 1 460 etc. http://sfaboston.bizland.com/cam.htm I am going to build another 302 soon that will be period correct looking - but here is the one in my Camaro Here is my 302 running http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6-V__tGZEY
Hi Tim, Cool intake! I have a small block Chevy version of that Mickey Thompson cross ram in really great, un-molested condition. Been holding on to it for a looong time...M/T PN 3746427. The runners are the squared off kind looks very similar to yours only sb. I believe these were mid- maybe late 60's. The M/T ones seem to be a lot more rare than the Edelbrocks/ Offy's etc. I think the M/T's are way cooler with the carbs being more staggered. (rather than the side by side style like Edelbrocks) anyways, just my opinion. I've got a STR-10 X-Ram goin' on a 302 and a SY-1 going on a ...355...or maybe another 302 hhmmm. Been trying to come up with ideas on what the hay to do with this M/T one...I've thought about trading it for a BB version for my 427...Anyone ever ran one of these M/T's on a SB?? If so, what c.i.d. did you have fun with? BTW, Hi everyone I'm new here. And I misspelled my screen name (It should be CLUTCH The Movie)..killer thread- and sweet 302 Camaro ya got I checked out your youtube link Jay
Dredging up a very old thread, but it's something I've been thinking about pursuing. It seems M/T generally had a connecting p***age between the 2 plenums which Edelbrock's did not have. I see lots of pics of Edelbrock crossrams and some M/T crossrams for SBC, but very few of the M/T's for BBC. I found a couple old pics of one off the HAMB cl***ifieds, and it clearly does not have a crossover p***age. So, without showing more SBC, Pontiac, or FE stuff, can anyone show a pic of an M/T BBC that does have the crossover p***age?
Hmm, with divided runners it kind of reminds me of the MOPAR short ram manifolds form the early 1960s. https://board.moparts.org/ubbthread...er/244862/filename/Long/Short Ram Bottoms.jpg
The consensus is that the connecting p***age helps low speed drivability and makes tuning easier. I'd be surprised if they had the budget to retool anything that was this low of volume sales.
