Recently purchased this really sweet 31 ford coupe hot rod. I was told it has a Toyota truck rear end. So far, I purchased brake shoes and wheel cylinders for a '79 2wd truck that looked like they matched what was on the rear end. I can't find the correct the brake adjuster spring. I can't find the correct brake drums. The wheel studs are 5x4.475 which doesn't make sense because the early Toyota trucks are all 5x4.5. Does anyone know what yr, model this rear end is, or where I can find this brake adjuster spring?Tha nks
Don't know if this will help, but it can't hurt! https://www.off-road.com/trucks-4x4/tech/toyota-differential-identification-18588.html https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/129-0012-toyota-rear-axle-upgrade/ http://dealerquickparts.net/HPFile/AXLE CODES.pdf
The axles have been redrilled to change the bolt pattern, what is the original bolt pattern? It's not a Chevy rear, it is most likely a Toyota pickup. It looks like you have the adjuster spring, is the spring missing on the other side or something? do you really need to replace them? Do you have the old drums? to measure and take a picture of? or do you have dimensions? rockauto is pretty good for looking up the dimensions of drums that you suspect might fit it, so you can compare.
yes the spring is missing on the other side. And yes its a toyota rear, but what yr and what did it come out of? I can't seem to find the correct spring I've checked Rock auto, I also figured out its a chev bolt pattern. I think a 1957 chev drum might work from Rock auto. But I need that brake adjuster spring.
I believe the drum has to be wider than 10" plus the bolt pattern on my axels are 5x4.75 not 5x4.5 there were no drums that came with the car. there was no brake parts that came on the rear end drivers side
It is very clear that these axles have been drilled with the Chevy bolt pattern, and the studs installed there. Measure the bolt circle on the 5 empty holes You will find that to be 5-on-4-1/2". It is a 2WD Toyota pickup rear end. You will need to re drill new drums to get them to fit.
Measure it easiest drum is drilling a Toyota drum You can look up a casting number from a wheel cyl to help ID Numbers on shoes Things like speed sensors being present or missing
