I’ve had this 40 for approx 10 years now, it was my first prewar car and led me to the Hamb while searching for info about the 40 fords. After I purchased the car from a fella in GA and hauled it back to KC, I found it has Hamb history. @Mutley responded to a thread seeking history of the car, advising me that his father had owned the car for a little bit in CA. He put me in touch with his dad and I was filled in on the history of the car back to approx 2003/2004 when it was built to run in Hamb drags. This car was brought back to life in St. Joe MO, went to CA and had a couple of caretakers there, then went to GA, and now back to KCMO where it belongs. Over the years I’ve had all the mechanicals worked over. 383/350 and 63 olds rear. The interior was done in CA and just needs some TLC at this point. The body has been loved on by a couple of different guys. I have always wanted it one color, and smoothed out. This thread will show the progression that I’ve done over the year. Here’s a couple pics of it running at an early Hamb drags, and a shot or two of the car before I got into it. If you know the car, have pics or stories from the Hamb drag days or any past please share! Hopefully Hamb drags will make a comeback some day and we can get it back down there looking a little better. red fender pics are the original builder running at MoKan, the primer pics are how the car was before getting into it.
Here’s a few after running a block over it to see where we started. It wasn’t too bad for its age and history.
I bought that car in Amazonia Missouri in July of 2004 and decided to build it for the 2nd Hamb Drags and 30 day later drove it to Joplin it had been sitting since 1974. I stripped it to the body sitting on a bare frame added the olds rear and ladder bars, tci x member power steering and dropped axle with power disc up front front. Added a speedway wiring harness put new glass and seals all through the car then stuffed in a 350/350 combo then added the 6x2 crossram and dress up with headers and exhaust to the rear axle. Some build pics are here. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/attn-flamedabone-wheres-the-henry-j.24061/ I’m glad the car has held up and been enjoyed it was a fun build.
I never realized that that’s the same car! Super cool man looking forward to seeing what this draft looks like.
thanks Mike, I learned more about it from you! It has been a great car, the kids love it also I patched up a few soft spots in the floor and made a patch for around the fuel spout. The floor wasn’t too bad, a few soft spots here and there, and also made an access panel for the brake cylinder.
Great Tudor! I had one years ago, love that style. Let me know when you decide to replace that cheese grater hood with a proper stocker
