I need to replace the rocker and part of the front fender on a unibody (fenders cannot be unbolted). I have the outer rocker and the lower fender patch panels (I'll still need to fab some patches). The sections are not rusty, but the PO really mangled an old repair. I plan to convert this to a 2-door and chop it, but I figured the rocker needed to be repaired before I attempted any of that. How would you approach this/in what order? YouTube video recommendations? How do you hammer & dolly the welds? It's a Jaguar Mk2, but the Corvair and others have similar body structures.
There’s some nice pics here. We call them sills over here so if you google mk2 Jaguar sill rather than rocker you’ll probably get more hits https://landieman.com/2016/08/21/remaining-body-repairs-part-2/
Thanks, that's a big help. I wasn't expecting actual Mk2 advice! Any tips on planishing the welds on a fender patch? All the videos I found online had the fender unbolted from the car, which isn't possible here.
Can you access the inside of the fender/sill area? You might have to make something to back your body hammer up in there. I wouldn't hesitate to cut that mess out and install one large panel even if I didn't have access to the back of the panel. Working slowly and carefully, one could replace that panel with little hammer/dolly work and have a much better result than what's there.
Martin Robey in Nuneaton UK can supply almost any part for most Jaguars. It may be easier and a better result with new high quality parts. I have no association to them, but I have used their parts before.
