Screw all this "Black Friday" malarky... my Christmas starts when I pick up my Dec/Jan issue of Canadian Hot Rods! Great magazine year round but the Dec/Jan issue always has a EXCELLENT Christmas themed cover art by Mr. Norwell. And this years is no exception... How the heck do you draw metal flake paint?!

    OUR Christmas has begun...

The most fun, spun aluminum candy bowl on the table. It was a college project that was supposed to be a small Moon Disc for a wall display... until I messed up on the spinning lathe. So, it became a nice candy bowl. The first 400 sq. ft. apartment for the 20 something youngsters together.

    Hello,

Our car, a 1965 El Camino was always a Christmas treat. Everywhere we went, it fit right into the holiday aura and shopping excursions. It even made the beach parking lots a little brighter with the splash of red sitting there enjoying the coastal sunshine.
upload_2024-12-4_2-18-26.png Going to college, Christmas shopping during the vacations, surf trips between school holidays, all in a red car that fit right into the holiday spirit. But, for all of those old days, something was missing. The El Camino was parked outside in our old Westside of Long Beach house and was cleaned daily to keep it pristine and nice.

The spirit was there, while something was lacking. Sure, our home decorations were great and the stack of presents was there. My teen friends were all in their own world as they got older, just like me. So, now I kept busy while still involved in trying to graduate from a rough 4 years of college and continuing our adventures.

Since I met my future wife in college, all things looked so much brighter. Being together made college fun and exciting. More so than, going surfing… yikes! So, while my grades were trying to keep up with my future wife’s grades, we were having the time of our young lives.

So much so, that when we got married, our dinky 400 sq. ft. apartment felt huge coming from an 8x8 1940s bedroom area in our old houses. But, it was our first time together and we made the most of what we had. Now, Christmas had some meaning for two 20 something kids searching for a nice quiet coastal lifestyle. Bare furnishings, but comfy and it was ours!!! YRMV
