Edelbrock AVS2 Carburetor #1906 650 CFM and chevy 350 sm blk Opinions on the #1906 for a mildly built 350 chevy small block for a Easy purchase, Simple, Reliable, carberator Option instead of a Quadrajet
Dude ! .... C'mon Man !......What's wrong with you....You need to use a Quadrajet, its the best, and easy to rebuild ! There, I got that reply out of the way
I have one on an off topic square body. It doesn't stay in tune, constantly runs rich, the choke doesn't close properly and I'm considering changing it for a 750 Holley jetted down.
My neighbor (that’s a hot rod buddy) bought one and tried it on his warmed over 390. Fought with it for months and finally yanked it. Me, being the arrogant ***** that I am, bought it off him and bolted it on a mildly built 350 sbc (~300 hp). ****ed around with it for a couple months. Pissed me off so much that I yanked it and installed a 670 Holley that took a few hours of tuning and giddy up, good to go. Sold that avs2 650 at a swap meet with full disclosure of its history to the buyer. I sure hope it’s worked out for him…. Maybe it was haunted
I have a 650 Edelbrock on my 53. Does nicely on my stock 350. Installed a 600 on a mild 350 in one of my old l bosses vehicles around five years ago ago and it's still doing well
I have an Edelbrock 1406 on a 318 Plymouth motor. Set it up initially and it has worked great for years. I never tried the AVS2 but I'll stay away from it.
I had one on the 327 340hp in my 60 vette for a couple months while I was waiting for the 2x4 setup to get restored. Mine worked great for me. Started easy and gave no issues while driving. They are just a copy of the old carter AVS
Never had any luck with one of those carbs ., always rich . Changed , needles , springs , jets final move target practice for my old M40 . Q Jet is your friend for GM . I always was thinking if someone says an Eldebrock Carb runs good , I’m thinking they never had a car run good , just my 2cents which isn’t worth a penny .
Being as it's an AVS (Air Valve Secondary) carb, is everyone familiar with adjusting the spring tension on the secondary air valve? Transmission type, vehicle weight, stall speed, axle ratio; all have an affect on how quickly or slowly the secondary air valve needs to open.
Put one on my brother's rebuilt warmed over 383 stroker, couple of months fighting it, running rich etc it went bye-bye... Never looked back...... ....
Edelbrock carbs are just Carter AFBs. They are easy to tune and get running right. Like I said earlier, I have no experience with the AVS versions.
Buy an air/fuel gauge with sender. Weld the supplied bung into your exhaust pipe, no more than 20" from the collector. Drive your car and see exactly where it's running rich or lean then, change the jetting to get it right. THE ONLY WAY TO DO IT! My AVS2 runs great after a few adjustments. Good mileage too.
