Technical Edelbrock carb fittings

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by deucepickup32, Dec 8, 2024.

  1. I was in the process of replacing the AN braided fuel line to steel on my traditional build 1932 Ford Vicky with a Buick nailhead and dual quads. The braided AN just doesn’t suit the build. After sourcing the proprietary Edelbrock 8090 adapter fittings, which would allow the use of inverted flare, I quickly found out that they don’t thread into the carbs, even though they are the right thread pitch. The 8090 fittings are approximately .010 bigger in diameter in height of threads. Had a look at the installation manual and the Edelbrock AVS carbs are made for rubber hose with barb fittings or AN braided hose. Disappointed and dissatisfied to say the least.
I was thinking that they could be made to work with some machining except there is a chamfer on the barb fitting. Anyone have a solution? IMG_9132.jpeg

Black AN fittings with either black pvc (or braided nylon) covered stainless braided hose, or AN push fit fittings and rubber hose, is neat and stealthy. Far from strictly traditional however.

there are several banjo fittings available I once cut the barb off of one and put a compression fitting on to run all hard line [IMG]

  4. If the AN fittings are red/blue wire wheel the anodizing off and cover up the braided line with heat shrink tube, electrical tape, hockey tape, spray on rubber coating.
This is a line I knocked the color off of quickly one day but never finished the crevices with the Dremel.

  5. Isn’t that made for a sealing washer an not a taper pipe fitting?

Easy off oven cleaner is my go-to for removing the anodizing.

Cut the nipple tube off the Edelbrock fitting, tap the hole for 1/8npt and screw your IF male adapter into it.

  9. I have two cars with 1406 carbs that I removed the hose barb fittings and replaced with 3/8" inverted flare fittings.

Pretty sure I used Edelbrock sourced fittings.

Maybe the fittings you received were machined wrong.

  10. They are 1904 carbs and the fittings from Edlebrock with the inverted flare are for a marine carb. The installation manual that is included with the carbs specifically states to use rubber hose only.
I might look at either 3 options, machine the 8090 fittings, cut off the barbs and adapt by pipe thread a inverted flare fitting or utilize banjo fittings as suggested above.

  11. That’s one of the options and am thinking that I may silver solder as well

Unless I am missing something, if your carbs already have the AN fitting for the braided hose ends, why not just replace the hose with hard line?

  13. I cut the lip off the end of the supplied Edelbrock fitting, and used a 90 deg 3/8 compression fitting on it. Hard line from there to the regulator.

  15. I did use the 8090 fittings; found an extra one sitting on the shelf. Still makes me think you rec'd some defective parts.

  16. I messaged Edelbrock and that was their response as well, possibly machined wrong. The purpose of swapping to inverted flare was to rid the AN braided look as it doesn’t fit my vision

yes the 8090 uses a sealing washer and accepts a 3/8" IF hard line.
I didn't like the look of the fat 3/8" hard line and used Carter AFB fittings to run 5/16" line on my Edelbrock 1406s

Split mine a a distribution block but I used 2 of the edelbrock fittings to inverted flare. I can get a better picture tomorrow if it would help anyone.

  20. Thanks and more pics please. What did you use for the distribution block ?

5/16” line and 4-1/2 psi from the fuel pump has worked for my two WCFB’s for 6-7 years. IMG_4005.jpeg

does the Edelbrock 1904 use a Rochester quadrajet inlet nut?

    something is not right there.
looks like only one or two threads engaged.
what do you see in the inlet?
do the threads look clean? how deep do they go?

I see about 7 threads in a spare 1406 here

Break out your thread gauges, SAE and metric, and figure out what you're dealing with.

  27. As per the picture, this is the supplied barb fitting that is incuded with the carb. IMG_9131.jpeg

  28. The thread pitch is correct it’s the thread diameter that is approximately .015 larger. I have contacted Edelbrock again today and awaiting a response. Very frustrating to say the least.
