The Valiants got their look from their cousin, the Pioneer Dart.

I thought both the Dart and Valiant were ugly at first, but as I got older I have decided they're kinda cool in the 2 door versions.

  3. To be completely honest I haven't seen anything I wouldn't drive, some of the despised cars & trucks are in my opinion are pretty cool. HRP

UPDATE ~ I was just proven wrong, this thing is FUGLY! HRP

  4. This one is just simply ugly for one feature this trim level/body style offered. The rest of the line up is beautiful to me, but this one trim level just ruins the look of the car to me. Its been one of the very few things my grandfather and I have really "agreed to disagree" on, lol.

Well that one thing is the 55-56 Ford Crown Victoria top, I have always thought the side B posts and trim across the roof was just a big eyesore on a otherwise really good looking car. The Victoria hardtops were a much better looking body vs the Crown to me. The Crown top give the look its a Targa top in the front when its not, kinda like a Sport Coupe, fakes a drop top or a open air option.

  5. I am a admitted Ford guy and I have to agree, the trim across the top looks as though the designers didn't know where to stop. HRP

Well, the '59 Buicks were surely an improvement over the '58s.

For the longest time, I could not wrap my head around the 1958 Fords.

There is so much going on! The ribbed roof, the tail lights, the dip in the trunk, the side mouldings, that grille! Hood scoop?

But- I have really grown to like those cars.

About thirty years ago, I visited a junkyard with lots of old junk in it, and the then 80 year old proprietor was in the process of restoring one of these. He's obviously died by now; I wonder if he ever got it done?

It looks like the result of a one night stand between a '61 Impala and an early '60s Mopar.

They cobbled car quarter panles on to a truck in an attempt to compete with the Cameo.

  14. I've heard it said that the 1958 Packard Hawk was a ugly car, I have seen uglier cars ~

But The Studebaker Golden Hawk was a much more refined car and very pleasing to the eye. HRP

Nissan Pao. Their attempt at making a new old car. Never came to the USA, but they were late 80s early 90s cars

    1946-7 Ford pickups.
Apologies to those who love them but I could never own something I would have to sneak up on from the back to drive.

here's a picture of a 64, if it were a hot rod or custom it would be on topic.

Rather boring design, I guess you could call it ugly without any qualms at all.

Senior year H.S. was forced to drive a '49 Dodge Wayfarer. UGH.
The pale blue paint was faded so,, that a cop wrote gray on one of my tickets.
Five years later when my girl's brother bent her 68 conv Camaro into an 'EL'.
I handed her a pale green '61 Lancer, to keep her mobility.
After she got Earl Schieb to make it forest green, she decided that my buddy should have it
'cause thieves ran off with his '71stepside shortbed C10.
When it came back to her,,, she called one night telling me that she had run it hard under the
ass of a '55 Chev. What to do, since the radiator swallowed the fan. (six miles from home)
Knowing full well what would happen, I told her just drive it home.
A call to the junk man resolved that. She claimed, she kept seeing glowing sparks in the rearview.
Now when a 62 Dodge full size (Polara), not terrible to my eye, was offered to me for $50,
I had no need of it but knew a gal that was homeless at the time.
With aid of an, out of view, parking area she had shelter 'til she could swing a lease on a room.
For the record, I thought '59 Buicks were slick.
The '60 Ford Sunliner (gifted to me) not Kool. Someone please :mad:kick my ass.

I always liked the basket handles. I think Ford went from conservative, to great looking, to WTF within about 5 years in the mid 50’s in general. GM was designing cultural icons in 57, and Ford came up with… this:

    IMG_6364.jpeg

The car looks like it was shocked that the designers put that grill on it too.

One man's jewel is another man's junk. I miss the styling of cars in general, Now all the Suvs and Cars look the same IMO. AS always my opinions and $2.50/3.00 will get you a coffee at most restaurants I eat at.
