Dusty Rods in commerce, tx is selling this project. I think he said its a 36 chev cowl with 55 dash and 57 rear clip. I was told it was built by caseys customs in Missouri. Its probably not up to plowboys quality but still interesting. Its on ebay right now if you want more info.

pssssssh, that thing doesn't have near the amount of soul the Lunar Lander has...and why even bother trying to sell it unfinished?...god that modern frame up front looks like ass...this thing isn't pretty at all...

I agree. The camaro front clip needs to be sold to a kustom or street rod guy. A straight axle is the ticket but the guy in Missouri likes a-arm suspension.

Im not sure his hamb name but the builder is on the HAMB. and there is build up pics of it on here if you search. Yeah it might not be the lunar lander but he was out in the garge doing something instead of just typing about it.

that's true...gotta give him props for that...I'd be interested in seeing if there was a lot of filler used on the bodywork or just a lot of plain old fashioned good fabrication...while there's a lot of things that aren't my style on there, at least he was doing SOMETHING...sorry if I sounded like an asshole before...

Wow a real Shoebox! That car was wrecked with poor design work.

When are folks going to realize you can not do something like this with a modern A arm frame, so someone wasted a body and frame building this (even if the body was a rusty hulk, it was a waste). Stock A arm front ends belong hidden under fenders, not out in the open.

Its like the guy who came up to me earlier this year telling me how he is building a hotrod like mine and Flamedabone but its was going to be a 46 ford coupe, no fenders, on a Monte carlo frame. then as he points to FlamedAbones 32 grill said he wants to put a grill like that one it (a 32 grill on non-fendered 46 ford on a 70's monte carlo frame...). luckily the car has not made the light up day and if we are lucky never will...

Wasn't it already on ebay a couple of months ago? Couple things I would do different, but an interesting start. Wish someone would finish it.

Tri-Fives are frequently reffered to as shoeboxes, though not as commonly as the 49-51 Ford.

I remember when this car was being discussed previously. Looks as though it pretty well stopped after that except for putting a grille shell on the front. Great idea but getting it to work would be really tricky. It desperately needs a new front frame clip that will get rid of the ugly stock IFS and put the engine (or at least the valve covers) below the cowl line. The builder insisted the stock front clip had to stay, I suppose that made the design hurdles too high. Oh, and it looks really thick in side view. Too bad, he already had a lot of work in it and seemed to really believe in the build at the time.

I believe the builder goes by something like caseycustoms on the HAMB, but I dont remember the name exactly.

Actually, you're wrong. Sorry. Don't really know where you're going with the clone remarks either. To call this car a "clone" of Plowboys car is downright laughable. It's built in the same spirit maybe, but clone is NOT the word you are looking for.

Depends on how the front end is resolved.
Some guy did one a while back with IFS and it looks ok.
    I think it's called the Beatnik Bandit...

  19. And yes Tri-fives HAVE been refered to as shoeboxes as long as I can remember too, WAY before Streetrodder Magizine:rolleyes:

It became more common to call em shoeboxes after the guy in California started going real fast in a blown version. The earliest days of Pro Mod maybe? Someone slap me in the back of my head and loosen the cobwebs:D! "Folsom Flash" seems to ring a bell? Hey Groucho, help me out here.

Back on topic, a little vision can help the car a bunch. It's not really that bad.

I'd like to see it finished with some of the suggestions in this thread. If nothing more than to irk the typical Torque Thrust II billit 57 Chevy guys that a 57 was cut up. If I bought it, I'd be sure to tell them it was made out of a 2dr HT or a Nomad too.

  22. From the two attached shots, I kind of like it. I might want to change a few dimensions, such as moving the rear axle forward half a foot or so, but all in all, it works for me.

For some reason I can't find the eBay link. Can someone include the link here? Thanks!

Let's agree we disagree on the shoebox.I first saw "clone" in Street Rodder and many times since. It's a totally ignorant way to describe a copy of a famous car.I can't explain why but that stuff drive's me nuts.I'm not calling this rod a clone. It's posted as one. Also,I like the idea of the i.f.s. on this car. It's not a traditional rod so with the updated body styling it seems fit to update the suspension. With some chrome and detailing it would be cool.I picture quad lights and use of the 57's grille bar. That car has a ton of potential.Add a Jetson inspired interior too. -Strat.

    I won't agree to that...
    :D

Finished properly, that car wiould be fun to take to the Chevy Nats or some other big chevy show. Needs a bubble top too, although not a bubble bubble, more of an ovalish bubble.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. The only way it would probably look good is with a "Roth" style molded grill etc.

  26. There might be a few things ya might all change. Maybe me too, but I like it.

It gives me a little bit of Saturday night dirt track feel.

As far as selling unfinished... yeah, it's hard to find just the right guy who wants to take it up. Been there...
That right guy could make a cool little car if he really wanted to.
