I've been working on the coupe off and on, getting close to being far enough along to pull the body and getting everything final welded and painted. Floor structure in. Once that was done I started on the firewall, pedal box and seat location, floor panels and column mount. The parts pile on my toolbox is shrinking quickly. I'm hoping to have it run, stop and steer before it gets cold.
It's been a while. Fuel tank mount Pedal mount mocked Seat pedestal 20220825_223019_02.jpg Seat and column position finalized. I'm just about to pull the body and do all the welding on the bottom side. The entire bottom will get DP and Raptor Liner. I may do the inside floor the same way I intend to drive this car as long as there's not snow on the roads so sealing it up is a priority. It'll have a heater, Rain-X and be seam sealed so weather shouldn't matter. Plan is driving to Daytona for the Turkey Run.
I am amazed at how much work you have done here. It is a shame so many early photos are gone. People won't know what has been accomplished. Looking Good!
I went through and fixed them since the whole Photofuckup fiasco. They show for me, you can't see them?
The photo message is a HAMB error, "you don't have permission" @Moriarity , can you help OP grant permission to us to see photos in early part of this thread? Thanks.
Yup @1/2done has the album set to private, meaning that nobody can see the pics. I can't change that. He needs to open the album then on the right side of the screen there will be "album permissions" he needs to click on "change permissions" and make the album public
My buddy has a 40 coupe he bought from a guy that worked at Summit and it had shaved rain gutters, he hates the look but the car is "finished" an he does not want to strip it down to install gutters. I think the gutters really add to the cars look but maybe a finished edge like a 1932 ford DeLuxe coupe would be a compromse, since the factory way was a sandwich ofthe roof then rain gutter and lower sheet metal.
I lost my temper and smashed the rain gutter over the driver side window on my '38. I think that was the most time consuming dent I ever removed. I still lose my temper but now I just cuss.
I pulled this from the interwebs, wishing for my own Coupe to have this attitude when it hits the road. I figured someone here would recognize it
Quick update: I started to lift the body off, but the roof wasn't happy. I figured out an alternative method, but it will have to wait till there's no rain.
The weather cooperated today and I was able to separate the body from the frame. I ended up using the gantry with a flat hook ratchet strap on the front and the engine hoist with a chain and axle strap through the filler neck hole on the rear. I modified the body cart to fit the coupe body and tucked it away for the time being. You can see the 32 cab to the right, waiting patiently. The flash rust isn't as bad as it looks, it wipes off powdery with your hand. A scotchbrite and Ospho will clean it up quick. I may go out after the garage heats back up and do a little derusting tonight, but in reality I think I'm done for the day. Doing this shit alone at 63 and deformed from arthritis gets old quick, but if I wasn't doing it I think life would be boring and a bit pointless.
Just gotta go at it easy. Pick away a little at a time. Go about it like Afghans fight their wars: Don't do much at any one time, but never give up entirely either.
