I always keep a couple of these purple guns on the shelf in case I need to spray something gnarly and I don't want to clean the gun.

I had some nice wooden outdoor furniture that got a bit worn from leaving it out a bit too long in the cold weather. I DA'ed it down, and sprayed the Minwax stain through a purple gun over everything, then spar sealer. 8 quarts total without a problem. When I was done I threw the gun in the garbage can and had nice refinished outdoor furniture.

I broke in the new purple monster on my hood with some epoxy primer. Sprayed pretty nice, and the epoxy laid down fairly smooth. I'm happy with it ;)

A little before and after shot

Just out of curiosity, if you have better spray guns available to you. One that you haven't even used yet. Why would you keep buying cheap Chinese knock offs of a Sata 92 ?

To make a long story short, I bought the Devilbiss guns originally thinking I was going to get into doing body and paint work as a sideline, but it never really panned out. I had a knock off Devilbiss JGA that I used for a few paint jobs I did for friends, and I liked the gun, so I bought some real Devilbiss guns. The HVLP was bought kind of at the beginning of the HVLP mandate. At that time I bought a cheap HF gun to practice with, but like I said, it never really panned out for me.

And BTW, I don't "keep buying" cheap knock offs, the one I bought recently is my second HVLP HF, and just to see if it's changed from the original one I bought. It does seem to shoot a better pattern than my original one. At some point I will break out the Devilbiss gun. I will be painting my Olds some day, and I promise it will get tried on that, at least with base coat!

Because they make a killer cheap primer gun AND work good for the average paint project, metal chairs, metal shelves etc and can lay a decent paint job on a driver with a little experience and do all the above on the cheap.

If I were painting everyday I'd own a better gun (and I do) but for small tasks and priming I'd rather use a gun that cost 10 bucks vs several 100 like my other gun. Save the wear and tear on it.

I'm not asking about someone with no experience and no equipment. That doesn't realize what the difference is.

He already owns better quality spray guns.

They are ‘ok’ I’m no pro but do spray a decent amount of rust oleum on projects.. they work good enough for what you expect $10 to do.. I bought a Stanley Bostitch gun from Walmart that I know is basically the same gun. I’ve had it for years and I like it. The biggest thing is it runs at 40 PSI of pressure and my smaller compressor actually keeps up.

I’ve had several of the old purple guns over the years and they all ended up in the trash cause I didn’t feel like cleaning them. I might grab one this time around if I get to HF but I’m not going to race to get there for it.. I’m more curious about the pro quality guns they have now.

Because they are cheap and disposable.

If you ream the tip to 1.8, 2.0, or 2.2 they lay out high build flawlessly.

Expensive guns are for top coats and finish work.
