Nice car and quite rare! Mopar always seemed to be great at mixing and matching parts from their various makes: case in point being the '61 Dodge dash in the '61 Desoto! If I remember correctly when Desoto production was suspended in December 1960 folks who had outstanding orders for Desotos received Dodges instead.
THAT IS BEAUTIFUL!!!! Being a Mopar guy doesn't help, but I would LOVE to have that. I wouldn't do too much, it looks good already.
Awesome car. You'll be needing a fedora and a smart suit when you roll that into a show. Straight up Mad Men status right there.
Start looking here for inspiration http://public.fotki.com/Rikster/11_..._cars/watson_custom_cars/larry-watson-person/ This car is begging for a Watson style outline paint job, astros, pinner whites, and o.g. aircraft hydraulics
I thought it was 361 but everytime I said that people had me second guessing myself saying, "Well, I've never heard of that." or "Are you sure it's not 360?" Who cares! That's one inch. I hope it was a 4bbl carburetor which this thing desperately needs! In fact, I'm willing to pay double for just that. They also offered "Autopilot". Basically cruise control. I WANT IT!!! This is a December build. Pretty neat. I tell people that it's a late model. Suits and hats I got.
Yeah, it's like the Ford 352 big block, everyone's heard of a 351 small block but not a 352. You can say it's a 360 & the idiots won't know the difference, but you'll look like the idiot to anyone knowledgeable about Mopars. As long as YOU know the difference.....
Love those forward look Mopar's. More pics when you can. Very unique, looks custom right from the factory. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Looks like the 361 was the only BB for DeSoto, but if it had been a Chr it could have had a 383 or 413 also, depending on Model. You might get decals for one of those, people have heard of them....
I was noticing that it only has grill and deck lid tags, nothing on the fenders. Kind of neat! This is my only driver V8 and the first V8 that I've had in ten years. I'm definitely noticing a difference from my inliner 5's and 6's.
Let's see it! I never made the Hammer Head connection before now I totally see it. Awesome! I am unsure of the wheel covers. I have no reason to believe that they are not originals but I'm not sure.
I helped the Previous Owner with a bunch of work on this car including Brakes, Carb Build, Fuel Tank and Lines, and Water Pump. Today I ordered Tie Rods, and Ball Joints. Have to get this thing to go straight down the highway, currently a wild ride. I'm looking forward to having a solid, highway safe machine.
Awesome car. I love the '61 DeSotos. So rare and so fascinating. They were all hardtops, either 4dr or 2dr. I was trying to work a deal on a black coupe some time back but it didn't pan out. Being a 4dr, I think I'd leave all the gookwagon stuff off it, but that's just me. Have fun with your ride!
Dual servo drum brakes, not the easiest to find parts for.A outfit called Scarebird (I think) made adapters that allowed you to use front rotors with stock spindles. find the site it had a step by step to install calipers and brake lines. But what a find!
If anyone has seen this car, I want it back. I sold it a decade ago on eBay, I have no idea where it landed.
