When I was in high school, we had a couple guys so good at that, they could parallel park coming from the opposite direction. When I got my '50 Cad 60 S, I was sad that no matter how hard I threw it sideways, it wouldn't ''perform'' ....
I parked next to a bus stop bench perfectly on the other side of the Blvd one rainy Christmas Eve. It wasn’t planned.
Brings back fond memories from days gone by. My best friend came back from Vietnam and bought a 54 Chevy two door post for a winter beater. We would go to K Mart parking lot and do doughnuts around the light poles. I actually taught my son and daughter how to drive in the snow and ice in a school parking lot at night by making the car slide and slip on the snow. Neither ever had an accident (that I know of) in the wither. Great learning experience for controlling a car in a slide. WOW that was fun!
My friends and I did some slow-motion dirt track style racing (including some paint swaps) in winter beaters on hard-packed Detroit parking lots when the opportunity presented itself. It was good training for car control, but mostly because it was FUN.
It’s all fun and games doing donuts in a parking lot until the thud from the car hitting base of the overhead light. A friend in high school did that in 1975 with his 65 Impala right square in the middle of the front bumper. Last I saw him he still had the car.
