I'm running 3 dueces (97 copies) thinking about swapping main carb for a BIG 97, but worried that it seems everything now is poor quality and they are not cheap-plus I hate to have to take intake off to modify if they are not as good as they should be, any knowledge would be appreciated, I need the CFM (more) SBC about 375-400HP

A step in between would be Stromberg 48’s. They are 180 CFM giving 540 CFM. The big 97’s are 250 CFM . Three 48’s on an SBC in my old coupe was way fun.

Anything that’s real stromberg I’ve seen no complaints about. Get speed way or eBay knock off and you roll the dice.

If I was buying a 250 cfm stromberg from stromberg I would have no concern about it being a junker when it arrived.

Never, ever buy the bullshit knockoffs that Speedway sells.

I know Alex Gambino runs 3 Big 97s on the SBC in his 54 Chevy and he drives the shit out of that car. I have no personal experience with them, but like most things, if you buy the real McCoy, you'll get a quality part

  8. All the Stromberg carbs that Clive makes are very high quality. It doesn't matter where you buy them from, just stick with his products and not the el-cheapo knock-off crop from Speedway or others.

here is the official stromberg page showing dealers, including ‘summit racing warehouse’ which may or may not be the ‘Summit’ that you are referring too.

I have no idea of your location, but it looks like it lists all the dealers world wide.

    https://stromberg-97.com/areas/usa/

Some people have reported success with different brands of other ‘97’s.
I personally would only buy the genuine article, which are $ 920 each down here, in NZ dollars.
$ 120 of that is GST, so for 3, it will be $ 2760 including $ 360 of tax.
At around $ 300 - for the cheaper versions, and a approximate $ 1800 difference, would I be prepared to risk all of my hard work with a potential fire or harm. No !
What you do is up to you.
    - as a side note, my car had a small engine fire last week, - it wasn’t pretty !

I believe our own Uncle Max is a real dealer. He is a terrific fella. If I was in the market, I would support him.
