For those not familiar with Google translate:
But it is a one, on my 31 4 Banger it is also stamped as the engine number.
Ford changed the numbers 1-6-9 from February 1931, that's what it says on Fordgarage.com.
    Greetings Harald

I also speak a bastardized version of German...

That is a 1 in Ford serialese. Do some research if you don’t believe me.

    you may be right……
Initially I thought it was a M, but couldn’t find an M in the van pelts info.
Couldn’t decipher all the other numbers.
But I still don’t think that he has a ‘32 serial number on his 1947 block !

It’s a 1. I have one in my vin number as well. DMV kept insisting that it was an I. Idiots

Some old typewriters didn’t have a number 1 on the keyboard. You had to use a capital I

    Thanks for the clearer photo.
From the link that I posted

    “ 1947 Ford V8 - 100hp - Mercury V8 - 100hp “
    numbers are…….
    “ 799A-1,412,708 to 799A-2,071,117 “

I believe that yours falls in between those numbers.
…….if you look further down the same link, (which I didn’t do a few days ago until @alchemy pointed it out)
    - it shows the new and old versions of the number 1 or I

Ah, he was thinking the first 18 was referring to the 1932 model number, but now we see it’s just a regular 1947 block and serial number.

Yes. I was think the 18 was the start of the serial number. Thanks for helping me make sense of it.

Thank you! That was the point of my asking. That "32" number makes the case valuable.

The fact that trans number is stamped alone will not work in France,no way. Chassis needs to be stamped and paperwork has to match. The last domestic 32 V8 trans number to roll off the production line after the number"eighteen" is 212,238.Yours appears to be 2575...?

Those numbers appear to be raised, not stamped (?)

Thing is, if it’s a ‘32, then put it for sale and you’ll soon find out if it’s valuable to someone or not.
I assume you don’t have a use for it? So list it up, send it down the road.
