Here is Ford's prototype 1931 Model A Three window.
There is at least one original of these surviving.

Yup. If I hadn’t seen the cowl or forward, I’d say it is a Mopar. Why would you want to make your Ford look like a Mopar?

I remember seeing both of these body styles. They are interesting, but not nearly attractive enough to justify hacking up any of Ford's superior designs. I'm starting to understand why restorers usually hate hot-rudders.

I've read through this whole thread a couple of times and still don't understand the initial purpose.

Just one man being inquisitive I suppose is the initial inquiry, if built from pieces & cast-off parts no harm done, plenty of "Phantom" types were created with what was at hand, & yes some tastefully done & others not so much. I'm thinking model 'A' coupe with slant window cowl/doors or 32 forward roof section, two that came out well.

this is pretty close to how it would look within an inch or so of stretch. you can see a part of the door handle on the beltline to see how much it stretched the wheelbase.

My initial idea for the thread was just a fun inquiry if anyone had ever attempted such a combination. As to why? well a number of reasons for the thought: A large doored coupe would be nice for egress, and sometimes regular opening, non-suicide doors are a plus. I prefer the look of the 5 window/sedan style windshield and header shape over the 3 window, and I like the look of a 5 window trunk and 1/4 panels in the back. Nothing against a 3 window, I have owned a few and like them, and I have owned a 5 window, and several tudor sedans. The Tudor doors are my favorite, BUT, I find a trunk more useful than a back seat. Will I ever attempt this project? who knows, probably not? but if I did, I can assure you all that I would not be cutting up two pristine bodies to cobble together some hideous mess, it would have to be a rough sedan with rear damage, or a sedan cowl and doors, coupled with some United Pacific rear 1/4's. I still like the idea.

I am not techie enough to do any decent photo shopping, but I can operate scissors and white-out so I had a go at it, maybe I will draw it out better later on.

I like the stretched version with full coupe 1/4's as a "what if" Ford has made a "missing link" between the Ford, and Lincoln in 1932. Like if they started Mercury a few years earlier. The wheelbase would be about 114" and could be stretched right in front of the rear fenders, so stock 32 fenders would work and the reveal in the frame would not be affected. It would be neat with dual sidemounts, tall whitewalls, a 3-window style dash but with two glove boxes, dual horns, but still all 32 stuff.

The stock wheelbase one with no 1/4 windows could be really neat with the "B" pillar tilted just a bit forward like a 3 window, and maybe a small chop.

Just fun to dream !! Hope everyone has a merry Christmas !!

I do like 49’s bottom version. Almost has a Chevy look to it, but no Mopar look.

That is how the Posie built project looked in my memory. Wonder if anyone ever finished it?

The 3rd. version is akin to a long door sport coupe with steel top conversion, not for everyone, however an abbreviated landau bar could be extended from the drip rail.

... there was a black 1934 "long door/short trunk" 5 window coupe at Goodguys P-Town many moons ago. it really looked good and was a high quality car. looked through my pictures but it must be on film.

A sedan delivery back door grafted onto a sedan body would be kinda like having a trunk instead of a back seat.

thanks for the time involved to do the photo shop.
The photos give a much better indication of what it would look like.

As Henry, grinding through a depression,
    Think about costs saved,
    extra pieces of glass,
    different sizing for doors,
time saved, fitting and trimming quarter windows

    Yep !
I could never figure out why there were so many models, 14 or 17 - for 9 months of production ?
Even today, most car manufacturers don’t run that many models do they ?

that door would open strange assuming the door line continues at the same angle all the way down.
it would not open at all if that door line goes straight down

There's a lot more to it than than, but I'll let you see what you want to see! Have you ever compared a '32 3 window to a 5 window? The only things that are the same are the firewall, fender opening, and rocker. Everything else is very different.
Don't focus on the snippets of door lines you see, or hinge location. From the beltline down it's all sedan lines. Its more an example of what I think looks better regarding the door top shape and rear of the roof. This is also chopped some, and the windshield leaned back.

Although that is the best version with Tudor doors, it still doesn't work. To me it looks like a toddler with a loaded diaper.

if the doors are like sedan doors and straight down you would not be able to open the door. door hinges need to be aligned with one another. the top hinge would bind.

Did you even read what you quoted from me? Forget the hinges. Move past it.
