Actually got the 283 running today, with a little help from my neighbor ,Rick. The only thing I did wrong was put the distributor in 180 out. It fires right up and sounds mean. Gotta go around fixing little leaks and stuff. One thing I am dissapointed with is the upper pully that I got from paw, it really has a wobble to it. Had a couple of water leaks that I am tending to. It shows good oil pressure and actually idles nice for right off the bat. I turned it around so the exhaust goes out the garage. Anyway I think that was my biggest obstacle. Now that I know it runs I can relax and enjoy the rest of the build.
congrats man, looks great. and i think everyone has put a dizzy in 180 out at least once in there lives hehe
Congratulations. Noting like the first time it fires. Really looks great, I really like the checker flag firewall.
"Level" pay program, yeah I laughed at that, too. I know how that is. In the process of tryin buy back one of my projects I had to sell in time of need. Good luck on the rest of the truck.
Dig the hell out of the truck, the 180 out deal makes ya feel like a real dumb butt HUH... Like stated above i think everyone who has done that kind of work has done it at least once especially if your tired and excited to hear tha thing fire. Then someone comes along fresh and clear and bam!!!! fires right up. Good luck with the finishing cause it looks killer man.
Damn schweeeet. Gives an old fart like me w/'33 some drive. Droppin' a 283/4-speed in mine. Maybe mock that up next week. I dig it. Firewall is kickin'. Congrats.........
congrats... thats a HUGE milestone... gave me wood when i stoked up the boiler in the willys and fired that 455 over the first time
Congrat's, How long did you have to wait untill your cheeks stoped hurting from the grin you had on your face? Looks cool, good luck with the finishing details
Sweet truck, love the checks...anymore when I put a distributor in, I get it where i think its right...then save my self some time and spin it 180 for good measure...always works. Newb question...what is that master cylinder from?
Congrats, man... Nice lookin' ride. The master cyl. is early 60s Chevy... like the one in the Milner coupe... I'm not sure of other years or if it was just in trucks, but... http://www.projectthx138.com/Parts%20List%20Photo%20Gallery.htm JOE
Now ya' gone an' got me all nostalgic to hear the 283 I've got waiting on the shop floor. They're small cubes by love the revs. Perfect for a light PU like yours.
Running a mustang radiator and a 30 shell I had to use one of those steel flex hose to make the lower hose work. I "dummied" the radiator supports to the shell. and I fabbed up some lower braces to firm up the radiator
Congrats on the fire up. I dont think theres anything more stress relieving than hearing that engine fire for the first time.
