Anybody have any pictures and or stories of reinventing old drag or circle track cars and putting them back on the street but still keeping the old style as close as possible albeit with legal requirements?

Well it’s not mine but how about the **** Kraft lakes roadster, found and modified for the street by Richard and Gary Seiden. The brothers named it the Highland Plating Special.

I hope we can dig up some cool pics and history.

  4. Back in the late 70's when I was sprint car racing, I bought out a guys shop just to get all his spare parts. Included was an old sprint car and supermod, both rollers, that he said were part of the deal. Neither car was ever going to be compe***ive, but I didn't have a choice, so I hauled 'em out and just shoved 'em both in the back of the shop to wait their turn in the stripping process. So, one day I'm bored, and start looking at the sprint thinking it might just make a neat little street car. I stuffed in a sbc, had my buddy shorten up a glide, moved the pedals around, put brakes at all four corners, got rid of the staggered tires, hung some lights, rigged up a lexan windshield and 'bobs your uncle' I had me a street roadster. Even put a wing on it. Breezed through DMV because I had a 1922 Dort ***le in my name. Didn't go with any of the 'specialty plates' because of restrictions. Drew a lot of attention, good and bad. Got stopped at least once every time I took it out. "What the hell you call this?" "1922 Dort, officer, slightly modified." It was a blast to drive, but the constant explaining got old quick. I finally just shoved it back in the corner and let it sit. Later on I cut the cage off, modified the frame a bit, slipped a 23t body with turtle deck on it and had some more fun. Biggest thing I missed about the sprint was that 28 gallon gas tank. Most I could get in the 23 was a 10 gallon.

I have similar plans to drive mine on the street. And just in case it gets complicated, I built the ch***is so a '27 T body will fit.
