I bought an IHC axle at an auction for these hubs. I wanted to see how they worked and to restore them.
I think those are also named “ Cutlas “ hubs . Had some on a deuce and a 1/2 , they work good but easily busted when off road . They stick out too far from the wheel
They work great but I always thought the pins that hold the flat bars that turn the shafts might be a weak link although I never had a problem. Paranoia is a terrible thing..... They can be easier to engage in cold weather than Warn's kidney-bean slots that you have to reach into (although sometimes you need a tool of some kind to pull the swivel bars out so you can turn them). If I'm not mistaken, Dualmatic brought out a later design that was a an external 'knob' that you turned.....MUCH easier than Warn! EDIT Just realized that the later design that I was thinking of was Selectro not a later version of Dualmatic. Sorry, as they say....."A mind is a terrible thing to waste!"
Always carried a propane torch with to thaw the hubs out in the winter when I wanted to change the setting.
My old OT Power Wagon has dual matic , they stick out past the wheel / tire a bit . They had worked great thus far
These particular hubs have the steel re-enforcing bands. I’ve heard of people having to remove hubs to get wheels off. I remember a 1957 Dodge Power Giant PW always sitting outside the local Case dealership when I was a kid. It had this type of hub.
I’ve not seen the Cutlass hubs in person. Would like to find a set for my old Willys CJ3A, if I ever get to it!
