    Hey folks,
Working on gathering parts for my 1939 Ford pickup. Just bought the wood pieces that go between the cab and frame but cannot find the bolts/nuts/spring kit that holds it all together. I tried C&G Ford Parts and Third Gen Automotive, both had the kit listed but are now out of stock and both said they don't know when they will get any more. Seems like they are special shoulder bolts with special springs, 7/16" fine thread I believe Does anyone know of another source for these kits? Thanks!!

third gen auto. They have a great selection of proper hardware including the correct kits to mount your cab with proper length bolts, springs and nuts.

Thanks for the replies guys! Like I mentioned I tried Third Gen Auto and C&G Ford parts, but both are out of stock and they have no idea on when they will get anymore. Just called LMC and they don't have any, they don't go back to 1939 parts. Dennis Carpenter did not have anything either but suggested Restoration Specialties, but they are closed until the new year but looking at their online catalog they don't seem to have any cab to frame bolt kits either............any other places, surely someone still has these available.

Best of luck, @Ralf Hoffmann . It's going to be a case of talking to each vendor until that elusive kit is tracked down. I'm facing a similar lack of stock on a component. The big world wide mess that disrupted supply is still being felt in small corners. Just in time doesn't apply to narrow focus specialty parts, so there is a lag in running low, ordering and getting new stock.

  6. 20241227_092414.jpg 20241226_183604.jpg This is the instruction sheet I got with my bolt set. Mine came from third gen. Hope this helps as it shows bolt size. Shouldered bolt could be copied with just a washer. Spring is 1.5 inches long, .975 inches in dia. and wire dia is .185. Springs in kit were slightly different but main adjective is for frame and cab to be able to flex.

@Ralf Hoffmann I apologize from having not better read your original post. I didn't see you tried 3rd gen before I recommended their product. I went on eBay looking for their kit and struck out.

Thanks guys for the great information! Good to know the details of the bolts and the spring in particular, as 62pan points out, they look like valve springs, ha ha. I will call Midwest Early Ford & CW Moss on Monday and keep my fingers crossed. No apologies necessary Bandit Billy and thanks for checking on ebay!

    You may have to Fab…..
And hit your Farm / Fleet stores for misc hardware.

Plenty of spring suppliers on the Web.
    Other odd ball hardware try;

    Good luck in the hunt.

I suspect the shouldered bolt itself is going to be the problem. Its been hard getting specific sized shouldered bolts for a few years now, even before the big mess.

Places like McMaster-Carr might be a good starting point, if you have the specific bolt diameter, bolt length, and shoulder length. The technical name for the bolts you are looking for may not be "shouldered bolts", you may need to know the technical name for the bolts you want.

Like Gene says ….Figure out your Diameter, shoulder length and over all length needed.

Hit the search box of https://www.mscdirect.com
Type Shoulder Bolt or try Stripper Bolt.
Appears plenty of variety of sizes in stock.

You may or may not be able to order a broken box or pack.

But if you figure out your size - they may have them.

    Good luck to you.

If you can't find a shoulder bolt that will work, maybe you can find a correct length sleeve (or trim a sleeve to the proper length) to install over a regular bolt that will create the proper spacing for the spring tension.
The purpose of the shoulder bolt is to have a specific gap between the bolt head and the nut for the spring to do its thing, while the nut is tight.

Install the bolt, install the sleeve, install the spring over the top of the sleeve, install the bottom piece, and tighten the nut. Holds the proper tension on the bolt and allows things to move as designed.
At some point, if the correct hardware becomes available, its not hard to replace, but between now and then, you can move forward with the project.

Thanks for the additional information Corncobcoupe & gene-koning. I spoke with Third Gen Auto some more & the person I spoke with felt that they would get some more of these kits "in a month or two". In the mean time I posted here on the Parts Wanted in the classifieds in hopes of someone having one of these kits. I am not in a super duper hurry so hopefully one of these kits will surface.

In the past when I've needed an unobtainable shoulder bolt , I've used a sleeve on a standard bolt . Turn to size , drill & cut to length .sorry Gene , didn't see your post .
