Well, it seems like the last of December is giving us a vacation of sorts. So, here is the last Friday Art Thread of the 2024 year. Post some artwork for all to see...

Big swells hit California with a wallop... piers and shorelines are taking a great hit from mother nature. The waves? well, lets say they are rather huge. ha!

    Hello,

After going on numerous Baja Surf Adventures, we realized that our small Flathead sedan delivery did give us “protected, inside” shelter in misty salt air environment. When parked on a cliff above the waves, one thinks the height will keep the mist away. But, it just takes longer to creep up the cliff trail to get to our sleeping area outdoors.
upload_2024-12-27_8-20-38.png The baby brother did its best to help...
When we tried to sleep outdoors, it was a little chilly, even during the summer warm months. The cold ocean breeze comes shoreward at night and brings the chill, moist mist along with the uptick in wind speed. Sitting around a campfire was nice, but when we all walked back to our cars vans, sedan delivery, it was colder and attempting to sleep outdoors sometimes was a misty proposition.

So, some of the surfers put their heads under the cars for protection from the mist and “wet heads” in the morning.

One summer, we all sat around the campfire telling tales of surf adventures and other places we had traveled. When the story of cliff side or beach side camping under the stars came up, someone always told the scary tale of the “wandering person” that scrounged stuff along the shoreline and if anything was left outside, was confiscated. Possession is 9/tenths of the law… so to speak.

So, we did pack in the stuff and not leave anything outside, other than sleeping outdoors at night. Even the longboards were put inside the vans, station agons and sedan delivery. But, wait, why have a nice warm, enclosed van, station wagon or sedan delivery and leave the main bodies outside, when all else was protected inside of those transportation vehicles?

It is like those that leave a expensive car outside of a garage overnight daily and keep cardboard boxes of junk piled up inside of a garage car parking space. What the @#$#@#%

With the scary stories abound, we all opted to sleep inside of our vehicles unless it was extremely warm outside. Then we all made a “circle of wagons” like the cowboy covered wagons in a circle for protection. And yes, some slept with their heads under the cars for extra protection.
    Note:

A lot of folks got larger vans when they became available to the general public, like the Econoline vans. It would have been nice to have an old Ford or Chevy panel van for extra room inside when it was necessary to sleep “protected…” YRMV

Two or three surfers inside of a Ford Sedan Delivery is doable, but a little cramped. A larger panel van would allow more space to spread out and sleep well protected from those wandering wayfarers roaming the shoreline at night. Such stories kept us all awake until we could not keep our tired eyes open in the late night hours… Yikes!

In the summer, we all liked to sleep outdoors under the zillion stars in the dark skies. We were miles from any lights and the dark country shore line was as if we were out in the desert, but with pristine waves right below our parked vans, station wagons, and sedan delivery.

Kind of a sad ending to 2024 with no "official" Friday Art Show:(.
Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and wishing you all a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.

  14. I imagine the holidays and new grandchildren have trumped the HAMB so I wouldn’t worry too much about an official’ FAS. Merry Christmas all! Next week will be the New Year post…
