Hello, I'm running my modulator vac line directly to a port on my performer manifold in conjunction with my brake booster line. The line shown in my photo is a mystery to me. What's it's purpose and does it need direct manifold vacuum or can it go to my carburetor? It's on the drivers side directly above the gear selector shaft. My Setup: '59 Apache with 355, mild cam, performer intake, holley 600 carb. Thanks for reading....

That's the vent. Needs to be left open to atmosphere!

  3. Is the transmission possibly a TH350-C, with a lock-up torque converter?

edit to add: I think @chicken probably has your answer.

  4. As stated above, that's a vent for transmission.

Ahhh, thank you! Should I just throw a mini air filter on it and tuck it up away from road splash? Thanks

  6. No filter needed. Basically as wet as conditions would need for water to get in there water getting in there would be the least of your worries

This is what it would have had https://www.ebay.com/itm/143865592501
GM added hoses on 4l60 and such in later years. If you leave the hose I would have it down and away from spraying on the exhaust as trans. fluid is flammable. But pretty rare to overheat a trans to the point your pushing fluid out.

  9. Another vent configuration was an open fitting aimed down at an angle.

Funny, I had just done exactly what you said. I'll leave it like this and order the vent piece TA DAD shared. Thanks for the input.

  12. You might even be able to buy that vent breather off the shelf at your local GM dealer parts department. I'd be curious to know what GM charges for them these days, but you might be able to save on shipping charges from an online vendor and still come out a few dollars ahead.

Thanks! I assumed it was a specialty deal so I ordered from ebay. It was like $12 shipped. I appreciate the heads up though. Thank you!
