Technical Anyone recognize this fuel filler door? (On a ‘36 Ford)

    No idea what this door is out of, but the car was painted in ‘70 so I know it’s older than that!

    Door opening is about 6.5” long, 5.5” tall and hinge look like it was at the top, sort of an oblong shape.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Looks like 1949 - 50 Mercury

    In 67 you lifted the hood, removed the cap and filled the tank. Maybe later years though?

  7. 68 up VW Bug had an outside gas filler door, but not even close to that size, I think Karman Ghia is rounder. Type 3 maybe?

    That gas door is 100% NOT VW

    I’m with @kb cookout it looks like 49-50 Merc

    I agree completely but I’m thinking the Merc fender is relatively flat in that area and the 36 is more curved and tweaking the perimeter metal may make it look like it does in the picture. Plus
    Sometimes pictures don’t look the same as in reality
    And
    If the customization was done back in the day the Merc would be a candidate from that era.
    My suggestion is just a starting point
