Since I like HAMB era customs I would say 49 to 52, 53 and 54 and 58to 64. in all cases I prefer the Bel Air and Impala convertibles and hardtops. The sedans I prefer as drag car inspired hot rod/street machines. That Tri fives no matter what style are on the top of the list goes without saying. Let the opinions continue! lol Larry

Most popular ? Not sure how to define that as most bougth or most wanted or most liked ?

My choice of if they were all free and of ones avalaible and I got to choose would have likely been a 57 fuel injected Corvette.

My favorite Chevrolets are #1. '55 Delray, I've owned four, and '37 and '38 Coupes. Those three are my most desirable.

  6. This is a head scratcher. Very recently I’ve decided that we (Little Truckdoctor and I) have to have a Tri-5 next. Next, I believe Chevrolet didn’t built an ugly car from at least 1950 through 1970. Aw shit, what was the question?

  7. That 63 is about what the Douglas Country Sheriff's had as patrol cars. In 64 my grandparents (CJ) had a brand new 64 Impala that broke a rear axle, the dealer loaner car was a fresh decommissioned Sherriff 63 2dr Biscayne with a 340hp 409 and a 4 speed. CJ recalls there was like 5-6 there for sale and you could have bought them for under a $1000 bucks.

  8. A specific top 3 would be a 55 Chevy 2 door (sedan, hardtop, or drop top), 61 Impala hardtop/bubbletop, 58 Impala hardtop. Although ask me tomorrow and get a slightly different answer. I am mainly a die hard bowtie guy so I like them all, lol.

Can never go wrong with a tri five, 58-64 X frame, 56-67 Corvette or any 48-66 Chevy truck (although I'm not a fan of 54/55 1st series noses or 60/61 noses)

Nice '59 Impala convertibles are quarter-million dollar cars now, but that's due to the lowrider crowd, not the hot rod or traditional custom crowd. All X-frame era Impalas are hot property now, even the 4 doors, but generally they aren't customs, at least not in the way we think of them as customs.

I remember 15/20 years ago it seemed like every young guy on the HAMB was building a chopped and sectioned 53/54 Chevy, with the 49-52 cars also making a really strong showing. But I can't remember the last time I saw a really in-depth build for one of those cars going on recently. A shame, they make bitchin' sleds.

'57 Chevy always seems to come out on top for me, not just for HAMB-era builds, but just as the most popular "old car". Restored, modernized, hot rodded, whatever. They were so popular it became hipster-cool to hate on them because they were so ubiquitous. Every cheesy tin man-cave sign or Elvis painting or badly-done retro diner has an image of a '57 Chevy on it, every time. They're inescapable.

  23. well my grandfather and I have almost had what you layout here, lol. My 33 ford has a SBC and we had a 34 5 window with a 348 W motor shoved in it, should have kept that car. Never had a 32 of any body style.

I can barely get a top 20 Chevys list done and you expect me to do a top 3? Can’t be done!

My first response would be to the effect there were no bad ones.
If it is singularly 55, 56, 57 top three.
Group wise- tri 5s, Xframes, corvettes
my personal preference- 56 sedan, 63 split window, 65 V/8 Chevy II

  26. Never understood why a split window vette gets so much love.

It’s just a vette with a goofy window divider

looks just a good as the non split ones

This is almost impossible to answer. There isn't one car in all the pictures that have been posted that a Chevy guy wouldn't want to own. They are all gorgeous in their own right and would be welcome in any garage. There are 5 Chevys in our garages, right now, and I wouldn't want anything else.

    Again, from outside.
    1. This is the way the original designer wanted it. Some stuff gets better with updates, but the original is often the purest.
    2. When talking the 63-67 generation, I'd prefer the final one. The hood trim is gone, I prefer the 3 louver side gills, and the backup light is really well integrated. I do prefer the 63-64 grille. Plus IRS and 4WDB and some pretty hot small and big blocks. I'm sure they made other smaller changes over the course of the run to improve. But that isn't acceptable here.
    3. The one year only makes it instantly recognizable, and a lot of the appeal for older cars is quirkiness and character. The center divider is the definition of this. Less visibility, more chrome, more paint, more fitting?
