I was bidding on a 31 coupe that closed without ever reaching the the reserve price. I know a lot of people hate e-bay but I have gotten some pretty good deals on things I needed in the past. Anyway, later in the day I recieved an e-mail that said it was the owner of the item and wanted to offer me the coupe for the bid that I placed. Seemed kind of fishy so I contacted e-bay and it was a scam to get personal info and money. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that if the second chance doesn't come through e-bay it probably is not legit. Hopefully this will prevent someone from being ripped of by these douce bags. Great advice. That fully restored blue '32 3Window with the Buy it Now of $7,100. is back for the third time that I know of. Total SCAM!
When ebay was young, I used to buy a lot. Everything was pretty much as represented, & I never had a deal go south. Now all the scammers, & sleezeballs have discovered it.
Every time I bid over a thousand dollars or so on a eBay item, I always get a second chance offer ... Bogus ... of course ... I bid $6500 on a item a few weeks ago and got 3 different second chance offers ... from 3 different sellers on the same item.
I've had second chance offers on lotsa stuff, and they were all scams, don't these guys ever learn?--TV
1) any email through ebay will be in your "my messages" page in your "my ebay" folder 2) NEVER pay for anything with western union wire transfer. that is the scammers favorite method of receiving payment.
If they would just do away with 2nd chance offers there would be no probs like this. It's out of control there these days.
I don't think they all are scams. That is exactly how I got my Hillborn EFI set up for the Hemi. I was highest bidder but well under the reserve so the seller contacted me to accept my offer. Got to admit I was very cautious but turned out it was a rod shop in Arizona that has been around awhile so no problems other than a couple of missing parts that I recieved eventually. So you can't always ***ume its a scam, but definately use caution.
I think the SCAMS have scared away many legit Second Chance offers. I know that if i have one or two doubles of an item and offer a Second Chance I rarely get a reply. If I list the sconod item as a new auction I'll get bids.
I'm pissed!I've been trying to get a "cheap" second chance offer for a spare Hemi but the guy's not answering my emails!!!I told him I'm not sending money till he emails me.And I live close to the guy so I want to pay and pick it up too!Good thing I didn't send the money. This is probably the same scam you guys are talking about.I don't know why the original seller won't respond though.THANKS FOR THE INFO again HAMBERS
I had a guy oversees call me up and offer me the 7K for a truck I was selling. He said he was going to borrow extra money and wanted me to send him the extra cash as soon as I recieved the check. I knew it was a scam so I went along with him and let hin next day me the check. He sent me an actual cashiers check drawn on a US bank. I was impressed! Of course the check was bogus but the ******* was out 20 bucks for the overnight mailing. I still have that check around here somewhere as a keepsake.
