Having a little idle mind time (whoa that's dangerous) and started searching for updates on the American Graffiti '55 Chevy. I read an old HAMB post where Walt Bailey said the AG car (the one turned into a show car by Wayne Newsom) had been sold and was being restored to the way it was in AG. The post was from 2012 I think, and I can't find any current information on it. Every article takes me to the Bailey restoration of the TLB car. Anybody know more? Thanks.
Last thing I knew about that particular car was an old interview that Jay Leno had with James Taylor on his YouTube channel. Leno took Taylor to a storage facility somewhere in Hollywood and showed Taylor the car, which was still as it appeared in TLB. The value at the time was $150k. If it was sold sometime later I have no idea.
There were three '55's used in TLB.....two of which were later painted black and used in AG. The third of the TLB '55's was restored back to its original TLB state some years ago.
My ancient mind can't remember when, but i saw a video of a guy that claimed he had the original, or one of them, and he was driving it around in a parking lot showing it off. It sure looked like the right one--but who knows.
I remember that video too. I’ve never known if it was actually one of the real AG cars. The vid is 12 years old now. If a real one is out there it’s keeping a low profile.
I remember seeing an ad in the back of Hot Rod Magazine in the early 80's, selling one of the AG 55's for somewhere around 10 grand. Weather or not it was the real deal... Who know's...
