I’ve got a gear vendors overdrive on a 727 Torqueflite in my Plymouth wagon and am thinking about removing the overdrive so I can put it on a TH400 for another project. Since I’m just manually controlling the overdrive with a switch I think the only parts I would need are the splined coupler to go from the output shaft on the trans to the input of the overdrive and the adaptor to bolt it to the trans case. Anything else needed? Does it make any difference whether a truck style TH400 with bolt on yoke or car style with a slip yoke is used?

Lots of smart, experienced people here, but I'd only rely on it straight from the horse's mouth.

There’s two types I know of. One I bought from a buddy that he took off his grandfathers pickup. I think it just bolted on with a coupler, to the tail shaft? Been years. Gave it to my dad, he sent it to GV to have checked out. He wound up buying the newer one that came with a tail housing to replace on the 727, guess this way the driveshaft could stay as it was.
Do as Rod says though, give them a call and get the scoop.

That’s the plan for next week, just figured I’d ask here first.

I checked into it a couple of years ago when I had a chance to pick up a gear vendors unit for a bargain price and would need a different adapter to fit my long shaft turbo 400. I don't remember the exact cost but it was more than the seller was asking for the overdrive unit.
Jim/Squirrel might have some idea of what it takes to get it done as he has/had one in his Nova.

Sounds like you have the right idea. The 400 adapters are the most common, and show up occasionally on ebay. Make sure the bushing hasn't spun in it. Make sure to follow the shimming instructions, between the coupler and output shaft. A slip yoke will work in the GV.
