so i just happened on a estate sale in my neighboor hood where i found a few items that looked like a good deal. it was something that i needed to pull the trigger and take a chance or loose the items. i'm a firm believer in the time to buy something is when you see it.
having said that, i'd like to know if i made a mistake or got a good deal.
the attached pics are of my finds.
first up is the 8BA aluminum ford heads. if you look close you will notice a pencil circle where there are 2 small holes. i payed $100.00 dollars for the pair.
next are some new pistons and rings. i got 2 sets of the rings and 16 pistons all of that stuff it nos in the boxes. i paid $80.00 for the lot. not sure what they are for but because the guy was a early ford guy i'm hoping they are flathead but havent had a chance to check.
so whats the verdict? deal or no? can the heads be fixed or are they wall art?
    thanks for any info.

The heads aren’t 8 ba . They appear to be 21 stud pre 37

Probably wall hangers. And they are early heads, not 8BA.

Pistons are flat top , probably for the early 21 stud the heads came from . I can’t remember the date they changed from flat top to dome , thinking 36
Did you get pins with the pistons?

Well you have got STD (standard) pistons and .030 over rings. No deal...

    twenty8 and RMR&C like this.
  8. The aluminum heads are for I believe a 35 - 36 21 stud engine. One head looks like it is NOS and the other looks to be rotted out quite a bit. If BOTH were like the NOS one, it would be a good deal . . . with one bad head . . . not so much.

Problem is, there is almost zero demand for the early V8 stuff. So not really worth much. Shame, as they are neat little engines.
I have several sets of those heads hanging on the wall.

Guys still mess with the early engines. My buddy is building a 21 stud right now and do to the size of rings and pistons he needed had to do a bit of hunting. Someone will want the rings if they aren’t rusty. Standard pistons are probably a little less in demand than something oversized but those will sell too I’m sure. The heads probably aren’t something I’d mess with but that’s not to say someone wouldn’t.
