I wish I could say that I still have the model cars I put together as a youngster. Unfortunately, while I was in the USN all of my model cars, car magazines, comic books, and baseball cards disappeared. I suppose Mom threw them away. They moved during that time and I guess they just didn't want to take these along.

  2. In a former life I polished aluminum as a profession, no matter how much eye protection you wear it still ends up like that! My Ex wife was jealous of my permanent eyeliner.

I have no idea where all that stuff went. I see guys on here that have models and drawings form their childhood and that is awesome. The oldest things I own are my first tool set form Craftsmen my dad bought for me one Christmas.

That stuff doesn't come off easily. Hopefully the remainder will be a bit less nasty.

You are the best welder I have come across and your headstone should be metal. Perhaps TIG welded aluminum. I'm thinking like Han Solo encased in Carbonite but holding a TIG torch.

I am waiting on Amazon to bring more polishing accessories for the air tools and Dremel. But I still got some stuff done today. This is the bottoms of the transmission and the side most visible when installed so I am hitting it the hardest.

The top was a bit rough, maybe dust and grime causing some pitting. The flat areas are ok now but I still need to detail the corners and crevices.

working around the tail shaft. Tip is pretty much done.

Just about all the part numbers and casting numbers are gone now. I still have the original tag to ID it. It will go back on…after I polish it of course.

I’d like to wrap this up over the weekend and prepare to put the engine and tranny back in the car. There are worse ways to spend the days. My wife went to Hobby Lobby today, that would be worse.

I did that because the thread is hard to find on my phone and that is where the pics are. So I start a post using my lap top, open it on my phone and down load the pics. Then delete the space saver.

I think that’s good enough. I could spend a month perfecting it but I’m tired of this job.

I had already polished that piece when I built the car.

I thought intakes had a lot of nooks and crannies...this was a project and my back is killing me from bending over that bench all day, everyday.
Tomorrow I need to shorten the input shaft a tad. Measure thrice, cut twice or something like that. Then add the hydraulic TO bearing and bolt it to the flathead. Getting close to re-assembly.

It's so cool, you make me want to do the same thing on the engine and gearbox of my ongoing 3-wheel car bitza project.
I must NOT do it, I must NOT do it, I must NOT do it...
    I hate you!

All that time and work paid off!
    Thanks for sharing the progress.
What do you coat it with to stop it from oxidizing?

  18. Wowzer! Good thing for your back that you don’t have an aluminum engine.

  19. I tried but I guess my approach to the conversation was wrong. I'm going to start calling B-B the Bling King. He's beyond help. At least the rest of us now know what that job entails and will never start on our own.

They tried that with Noah, didn't help. Not sure of the correlation but it's in there.:)

The two of us live in a 5000 Sq Ft home, she doesn't know if I'm in or out. We once went a few days without seeing other, that was weird. She was in the "laundry room", wherever the hell that is.

I tried that mantra and it doesn't work. Get to polishing!

One part OCD, two parts bourbon, one part Vermouth, dash of cherry bitters, shake, serve up.

I haven't had much issue with it yet. The aluminum driveline I polished several years back still looks nice. I do a once a year undercar detail (autocorrect tried to. change that to "underwear detail" FYI) and polish everything while I'm changing the oil. I do heat my garages in the winter. Prior, there would be such a temperature change that the interiors of my garages would condensate and drip with water (and everything in the garages). That really fouls up chrome and polished metal.

I have always thought that would be beautiful. Not the new "webby" looking engines but a cool engine like the little Buick. Eye candy!

I just turn off my hearing aids when I don't like the direction a conversation is going. I am beyond help. Mrs. BB's father tried to ward her off. "He's a car guy, they don't change. Don't try". ;)

Ah, a nice '69 Revel for me. Intoxicating aroma, great legs and a nice piquant after taste.

That's why I do stuff like this. No one ever said that about a gear box with smudgy fingerprints all over it.

You are welcome to polish my aluminium engine, transmission and rear diff. if you find yourself with nothing to do. 20160430_204848.jpg

    That would shine up real nice! You just need a tub of Mother's polish. It comes in 3 grades;
    Mother's original,
    Mother's advanced and
Mother F**ker. I recommend the latter.

    basically everything but the headers

    Liking that polished T5.
I had painted the intake valley gloss black as it needed to be brushed on, too tight to spray and get it even. But I didn’t really like it. But…add some metal flake and clear….

  28. Hay, wait a second! I'm looking at the E-Brake handle. Do I see a non shiny mount bracket there? Shouldn't that go to Chrome Toney for a coating of Bling? Maybe it's just the lighting but it don't look like it measures up to the rest of everything around it. Ballance man, balance and follow through. It's all or none at this point. Yes I did notice the shifter base also but it lives under a boot and out of sight. A guy has to save a few bucks where he can.

  29. I bet even a non-car person would think that's beautiful.
    Perfection BB!
