Friend gave me a bucket of early ford trans parts.said it had some zephyr gears so I was interested. No zephyr gears and all surface rusted.worth anything? I'm thinking 5 bucks just so I can make a clutch alignment tool out of an input shaft.
Would be worth a soak in Evaporust to see if the gears or syncros clean up ok. The snout and open drive rear cover could be blasted. Heck I’d probably give any of them a light blasting, making sure to protect bushings and polished surfaces. If the teeth end up being unchewed I’d probably use them.
Main thing is the bearing surface inside the input shaft, and counter shaft, then the surface of the front bearing pilot of the main shaft
Those second gears are worth decent money if they can be cleaned, bushing is still good and no pitting on the teeth.
I have heard that Charlie Schwendler in New York is one of the few people who can successfully rebush Ford second gears.
