I know your skin is pretty thick Gene, but there's nothing wrong with those Dodge trucks.
That's a nice looking Willys in the background though...

    Thanks.
Generally, I'm not too concerned about other peoples opinions of my stuff, we each have things we like and things we don't like. The post before the one I posted just caught me as being kind of funny. All good nature poking fun.

That pic was taken on the cruise at Lloydfest 23. I'm sorry that I can't remember who was driving the Willys. Here is a better picture of it.

Although I have always wanted a '40 Ford Convertible, the color of that one and the skirts kill it for me. I also like the '39 top much better but having a '40 Std Tudor since early '65 is my reason for '40's. I'm one of those that preferred my '39's "Fortyized".

I believe most convertibles were designed to look good when the top was down. Most converts just don't look good with their tops up. Creating the folding top changed the appearance of what probably was a good looking 2 door coupe, and not generally for the good. Once the car bodies got curvy, past the 1920, the folding tops just didn't do them justice.

  13. Not every color looks good indoors and in fluorescent lighting. Maybe it looks better in sunlight. I can’t say I’ve ever seen a ‘39 Ford painted this color but I have seen other cars. They looked good at least outdoors.

  14. The picture of the green car I posted off of the internet is a '40
My comment wasn't about that specific '40, but any '40 Ford convertible with the top up....mine included. Which is why, my top will never be up under my ownership.

The grille looks like a ‘34 Ford pickup re-purposed.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I have heard. In my opinion the 59 Impala and 37 Zephyr are two of the best USA designs ever. Anyway almost all the designs disparaged in this tread are beautiful compared to what we have today I mean come on Tesla it hurts to look at these vehicles.

    Hello,

In staying with the red February 14th celebration week, here is another version of a fun vehicle, but a terrible design overall. But, at the time, the goal was to have a car that could drive on the street. And, have the ability to drive into the water from the sandy beach and continue along, putt-putting on the surface of the smooth bay waters. It was a real car/boat for sure. So, it had a lot of value for both functions rolled into one design. Who didn’t have a propellor that actually worked showing the following cars on the streets?
upload_2025-2-15_5-4-18.png The Amphicar was an excellent design that had some folks drooling at the thought of driving on a flat street of the neighborhood, going to work and then roll right across the sandy shore to cruise around in a smooth water bay or lake for some relaxation. But, it was for flat, smooth waters of a bay, with no wave swells rolling around.
    upload_2025-2-15_5-5-26.png
The one thing that stood out, was being a little underpowered on the streets, but able to keep up with the traffic on any street. Freeways were probably not the right place to drive this open, dual purpose car. Also, we tried to go out of the main channel and head for downtown Long Beach. We got around the Seal Beach-Belmont Shore jetties into what we thought was going to be flat water.

But, the winds and open breakwater brought the swells. So, we felt as if the swells were going to splash into the car, which they started to do, until we immediately turned around. As we went back to the protected Alamitos Bay smooth waters, we did get some water over the top of the doors and it was a little wet on the inside door and floorboard.

In the teenage years, one of my friends had access to the smooth waters of the Alamitos Bay in Belmont Shore. There we sailed in an 8 foot dinghy, a twin hull Malibu Outrigger Catamaran and drove around in this unusual vehicle. Down the normal streets for cruising like all other teenagers and what we did as part of our own teenage hot rod cruise scene. But, to cruise on land with this odd ball of a vehicle, definitely turned some heads and gave us a ton of interest by passing cars of girls.

Out on the water was also one of the most fun things to do, although it ended up feeling scary that the slightest wake would flood the vehicle and we would sink and make us jump overboard. Well, jump out as the vehicle would be sinking. When we cruised closer to shore, but in overhead deep water, folks came out as far as they could standing up. Our friends on the sandy beach all laughed and pointed to a couple of kids having fun. Yes, the finger of fate also joined in the expressive greetings along the shoreline.

The one thing was the “slow in the water” speed and even when on land, the top speed was nothing to write home about. But, at least it could do two jobs, rolled into one vehicle. With the top down, it was a slow convertible on land and water. The speed was always not like our normal road trip speeds, but at least this oddball car could just drive right into the water in one swoop and have a ton of fun in the process. YRMV

So, my solution to the lack of power: ha!
    upload_2025-2-15_5-12-5.png
Now, talk about nose in the air stance when the throttle was stomped !!! Yikes! And, the dinky prop would be spinning like there was no tomorrow. YRMV

Back in the day anything that came out of the Barris shop was worshipped. It took decades to grow out of the "worship" mode, and start the "hey, wait a minute! mode.

  30. I posted a photo of a 48-50 Dodge truck. Compared to the truck offerings from other American manufacturers of the time, I think the Dodge is a very homely design. It's my opinion, which is subjective, but you certainly don't see a lot of them hot rodded these days ... I wonder why.

I never commented on "your stuff", so don't take it personally dude.
