Hey guys I’m installing a new driveshaft on a ‘63 Impala. I just want to confirm the rear wheels must be off the ground in the event I need to rotate the differential to bolt on the driveshaft? Also does the ****** need to be in neutral?
    Thanks

    It makes install easier.
But you will want to be able to set the parking brake when torquing down the bolts to the yoke.

That car has a 2 pc driveshaft with a carrier bearing. It is very important that when you are tightening the carrier bearing to frame bolts that the weight of the car is on the rear axle. (jack stands under the axle) or else you will take a chance on ruining the carrier bearing ***y....

Trans in neutral, axle housing on stands always worked for me.
