This feels weird but i’m gonna try it any way. My current project is a 68 chevelle SS396. Near as i can tell it was wrecked way back when in southern California. It was parted out too. At some point someone drug the carcass to Indiana and i wound up with it. What’s left is 98.5% rust free. After a couple years of parts hunting i’ve found as many GM parts as reasonable and made a bunch of updates (option wise). Now it has buckets w/ console, tach/ gauges, front discs. P/S, P/B, 4 spd(was auto). 427 instead of 396 ( thanks to @lumpy 63 ). The trans is an M22w with Auto Gear gear set. 3.31 12 bolt, eaton truetrac with strange axles. UMI springs and sway bars. Grand Cherokee steering box. The frame has been repaired and boxed down the center. All the “loose” body panels have in my buddies body shop and are ready for final fit and blocking. I just dropped off the body so it won’t (shouldn’t) be long until it’s going back together for paint. The car will be built in the spirit of the HAMB in that it won’t be modernized in any noticeable way. Kind of a “day two” build i guess. 15” cragars are the desired wheels for it. Something close to Cortez silver with black stock(mostly) interior. I like the 68’s because they still have a lot of older details like vent windows, key on dash, aluminum grill etc. All i have is ugly “before” pics. where i found it frame out from under it clean bottom side frame looking good
Rodgers Racing Engines (@lumpy 63 ) 454 block with 396 crank. Roller cam and rockers, iron heads. Should be a great street motor.
Did hell freeze over? It was just the other day that we were talking Chevelles only by “conversation”. I’m reserving putting pics of mine on here until I get it swapped over to the slot mags…
I really like that blue. Hey at least the wheels are 15’s and not forbidden on this subforum(as of now)
Nice man. Your Chevelle is gonna be killer. Had a lot of fun in a 4 speed 396 equipped 68 back in the day.
Scotty... If you had any hair at all on your Ass, you'd put a 4.56 gear in that fucker, and beat it like you stole it!!! LOL!!!
When he chose the 3.31s the plan was for a T400 , I gave him some shit for the trans change mid stream
I told you how cool I thought the Chevelle is at Lloydfest. I would love to have another one but even your starting point is way out of my price range right now.
Even project cars are stupid money anymore. I paid what seemed like too much for this one but it is very solid and i didn’t have to pay any extra for half ass paint, motor or interior
I will have another one at some point. I have seen a 68 wagon running around town lately that I thought was pretty cool
Any updates @scotty t? I’m halfway to having slots on mine and driving it almost daily at least for errands around town. I found that a fuel cell in the trunk sure limits how many groceries or bags of feed for the animals I can carry…
Well the chevelle is almost ready for paint, it’s been cleaned/stripped/blasted/sanded or touched EVERYWHERE. I told my painter to fix everything he saw that didn’t make him happy, that cost me a fair bit of time and a lot of money. But the gaps are near perfect, every panel is straight as can be, every bit of the body has some type of paint or coating even areas that no one will see. He’s got a project in his booth he needs to finish then mine goes in. The seats are done, stainless polished, parts bought and most sub assemblies are ready to be installed. I hope to have it home in January and on the road spring/early summer. It’s hard to get pics in his crowded shop
More progress pics. My guy may be slow, you won’t find a body man more thorough. He’s doing great work. Everything is seam sealed and most parts are in final black. If he keeps going like this there won’t be any left to do but spray the silver. Fenders are(were) NOS insides have been sealed and undercoated on the bottoms then blacked out. I’ve been busy on all the sub assemblies and incidentals that really slow down assembly
