I seriously doubt it. The fairgrounds are not that close to the mountains but the fires are not that far away. The winds have stopped and are predicted to come back on Tuesday of next week. The show is still two weeks out from that. Check out this screen shot.
I hope not just got our move in pack Tuesday. We are ready for the 20 plus hour drive from the black hills of South Dakota.
As of dusk today, the Eaton fire is "still": going quite strong. So...I doubt that the Fairplex Hotel, Evacuation center is closed for people in need. And yeah, during the show, it's "full" of car folks..! Mike
I think here is a chance cancellation. Problem is processing refunds and business like GNRS and thefout Ticketing like money. I just bought my car pass Monday. I might have passed on it Tuesday. so maybe they will postpone? Regardless of the lifted evacuations. There are many displaced people. Either way we are currently in state of emergency and the Fairground is still on LA County. also there is some decorum to it. there seems to be a lot car culture casualties happening right now. Even though it's not hotrods and customs. But I'm seeing pictures. It's bad. I was considering moving some of my cars to my work parking structure near LAX. I saw videos of whole million dollar car collections parked in a Home Depot parking lot. It's a very sad state of affairs this in Los Angeles this week. Kind like when you see all those flooded classics during Hurricanes or hole and business toppled during Tornadoes. They ar saying thousands of homes.
The fair grounds is 200 acres and most all of the car activity outside of parking is on the end where the exhibition halls are. The livestock that may be on site will be in the barns marked 17 with probably some tow rigs and trailers taking up parking space. Outside of some way out there in the far reaches parking spaces that probably won't have much effect on the GNRS. Searching for images that showed were the exposition buildings were in comparison to the barns and livestock area.
It not a matter of if the fairlex is good to go. There is a fire raging just west of those hills. Regardless.
As of 21 hours ago Rod Shows said they feel there will be no need to cancel the show at this point. I hope everyone is aware of the new show hours this year as well. Shows only goes to 6pm all three nights.
The fairplex has said nothing about events there this weekend being cancelled, so it seems like the show will likely go on?
Being the 75th there's a lot more people heading the Pomona this year for sure. Just locating a hotel room in the area for the event has been a challenge for some of the people I know. And that was before the fires began. Its certainly a sad situation with thousands loosing their homes and collector cars as well the loss of life so far. Its going to be strange attending the event knowing how many people have suffered such an unimaginable event. Visiting the many shops the week before which is a tradition so many of us do will probably have a strange vibe as well.
So many of the homes & businesses be them modest family owned, or celebrity status had historic significance & certainly many contained keep sakes, artworks & cherished antiques of every description.
I have a couple of questions since I've never been to the GNRS. 1. Because I am flying in, I will have to take an Uber or Lyft to and from the hotel every day. Which gate do spectators enter for the show? 2. I don't have a sense of scale of how big this show is and I'm 70 now. Is renting a scooter for one or two days recommended? 3. I know the Expo Halls don't open until 10 but what about the Grand Daddy Drive-In? Same gate? Open earlier? Thanks Rock
We rent a car, cheaper than an UBER. BIG, Lots of walking both inside and outside. I'm almost 80 and have a scooter rented. Knees shot, can't walk long distances.
@rockable I didn't see parking prices, but lots of other info HERE https://rodshows.com/grand-national/ In the thread I linked in post #19, they said ask anything. I'd go through the website, and if there's any further questions, post in that thread.
The show involves 10 buildings and all the cars around them. Plan on a lot of walking. There is plenty of parking, which costs about $10.00 per day, I think.
I'm a outsider looking in but watching the news and seeing all the devastating fires and loss of property it appears many people have been displaced and the motels will be packed with locals that have no where else to go. I've never been to the GNRS or California for that matter so I'm guessing the red cross, fema, churches and other organizations are helping house the people that have lost everything, in a situation like this do the motels and hotels go into disaster mode and cancel some of the reservations for the GNRS? I would hate to fly in and be informed my reservation was canceled due to a state wide emergency I hope everything goes well for the participants of the GNRS and also the residents of California, especially in the hard hit areas of the devastating fires. I haven't heard of any Hambers being affected by all the wild fires and I hope none of you guys have lost property due to the fires. HRP
I was remembering $20 for parking, no cash, card only. Anyone correct me if I remember incorrectly. That was a couple years ago.
. . . and the gate is cash only, no card (or vice versa between the two). I'm 83 and walk them all. Lots of places to rest between buildings if needed.
