    Hello,

In our old history, a Model A coupe was our first choice. I had seen an old Model A coupe under a canvas tarp walking on the way to junior high school. when my brother said that a Model A coupe was going to be our first hot rod, I knew where to take him to see the discovery.

Upon seeing the coupe, we immediately bought it and towed it home a mile or so away. Then the program started in getting the coupe running with the 4 cylinder motor first.

But, as all things go, for some reason, my brother surprised all of us in selling the Model A coupe to one friend and to another, his 51 Oldsmobile sedan with moon discs. So, our first build was now put on hold.

He drove home with a new 58 black Impala and that started the next 2 years of racing every weekend at Lion’s Dragstrip. upon the 59 season, he seemed like he was ready to retire from the A/Stock car racing class and move into the gas coupe class with a new build.

We had seen the white Reath Automotive sedan in the Altered Coupe/Sedan Class and perhaps that was another way to continue our build. He said we could run the Model A sedan if we did not have a 25% set back of the motor. If we kept it at 10% and kept the fenders, we would be in the B/Gas or C/Gas Class. Or, run fender-less on the street and just compete in the Altered Coupe/Sedan Class using our daily driver street build.

The speed and times were pretty close in both classes. We would be at a disadvantage by not having a 25% set back motor. But, with the new 671 SBC motor, perhaps it would not matter if we went to a 301 or perhaps a 352 c.i. SBC for power.

Then when late August or early September comes along, after the Nationals, perhaps we could set it up for a all out high speed run at the local dry lakes or Bonneville. YRMV

A low, ground hugging stance would provide the smoother flow of air resistance that a boxy sedan would provide while going fast.

for added streamlining, a set of Moon discs were added… a Stylish 50s look + every bit helps in the long distance runs…

Cool story to go along with this post. My daughter lives in a long term care home in Calgary. I have picked her up in my sedan a bunch of times and some of the residents know my car. I heard that some of the guys there have a model car club. So after Christmas I dropped off a big box of my car magazines. One of the guys tells me that JJ also does drawings of cars. So I told JJ I would love for him to draw me something. This week he tracks me down when I was visiting my daughter and gives me these two drawings. JJ is wheel chair bound and his arms are less than a foot long but he still builds models and draws awesome stuff. Thanks JJ 850464BA-3A45-494E-AFF8-4867E8FD38CE.jpeg 6FE6A5F5-FE61-4C38-9EFE-BD721A17B95C.jpeg

JJ has some real talent. This is the first time I heard of a model club at a care facility. It's a great activity. When my father in law was in a rehab facility, we used to take the 55 over there for a visit. Those that were able would come outside to check out the car. It was fun to hear their stories of cars they had in the past.
